Title: FTP port forwarding problem
Post by: sgip2000 on April 02, 2009, 06:50:16 AM
I have a DIR-825 with a DNS-323 NAS connected to it and am unable to access the FTP server on the DNS-323 remotely while connected to the DIR-825.  I am able to access the FTP server when using 2 other routers though.

I have public port 21 being forwarded to private port 21 on the DNS-323 on all routers.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Disable the Port Forwarding rule you created and apply it in Virutal Server.

I've tried it both ways.

I believe that FTP may also require port 20.

Is it passive or active FTP?

I've tried it both ways.  Neither work.

I believe this is the problem.  Unfortunately, the DIR-825 only has the option to forward port 21.

I looked on at he emulator and you should be able to forward more than one port.

Instead of 21  you should be able to use 20-21 or 20, 21

Yeah, I tried forwarding 20 and 21 to 21 on the DNS-323.  Same result.  Quite baffling.

Port forwarding is to forward to ports to the same ports at the "destination"

Therefore you seem to need to Port Forward 20 / 21 to 20 / 21.   Change the forward rule to have both 20 / 21 in the TCP and UDP.    I was able to do this on previous D-Link routers.

It seems that the method you have used "might" be used as Port Trigger.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately, I have already tried that and it is not working either.

I'm actually getting the following errors when attempting to connect:

[08:44:26] A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
[08:44:26] Client closed the connection.

You can:

Try setting a DMZ port to the FTP server

OR

Tweak around the    Application Level Gateway (ALG) Configuration

Tried setting setting DMZ for the FTP server.  Haven't tried any ALG changes though.

I'm having this exact same problem accessing my NAS ftp (a readynas duo); it worked perfectly using both port-forwarding and virtual server forwarding under my old DGL-4500, but I'm having a heck of a time trying to get it to work with my new DIR-825.  I've DMZ'ed my NAS, used both portforwarding (with both 20 and 21) and virtual server, and so forth.  Nothing seems to be working.  Any help on this would greatly be appreciated.

Try disabling SPI and set NAT Endpoint Independent for both TCP and UDP. Are you running any local AV's or firewalls?

Check the LAN settings of the DNS-323.
You have entered a static IP-address 192.168.0.x and the Gateway is set to 192.168.0.1 (DIR-825) ?

You need only to forward port 21 TCP as Virtual Server to the address of the DNS.
