Hello everyone
I was just curious if anyone else has the same constant problems I do with getting an open NAT on xbox? I have 2 boxes in my home and for some reason I can not manage to keep an open NAT for both my boxes. Furry has helped me multiple times with setting up my router, and I seem to have open nat for both my boxes for a short time, but the next day without anything changing we all of sudden have moderate NAT on both boxes, for no reason..nothing has changed.
This was the reason I bought this router in the first place..anyway I was just curious if anyone else had experienced this and if so..how did you solve it?
-
Still not doing open NAT?
Should be doing Open with out any issues.
Whats your ISP service and Modem Model again?
-
Hey Furry
Its Brighthouse..IE RoadRunner isp....the modem is a Ubee.
-
Whats the model number of the modem? This DSL?
I'm curious if you unbridged the modem and put the 4500 WAN IP it gets from the modem into the modems DMZ if this would help.
I'm wondering if the modem is still somehow hampering a clean and proper public IP connection. Is the 4500 set up for PPPoE or DHCP?
-
Alright...just an update.
I had the cable company come out today and give me my old modem back. A motorola sbg6580. However now I am unable to access the configuration menu of this modem...brighthouse has it locked and will not give out the password. Anyway I am having them bridge it...I may need you to help me again Furry because in this process...i defaulted the dlink back to scratch.

Wheres that saved configuration file we saved? ???

My DGL 4500 has been working perfectly for about 2 years. I bought it specifically because I was adding a second Xbox gaming console to the house and my old router could not handle more than one. I have played Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops and Battlefield 3 with no connection issues (at least none that could be blamed on the router).
However, when trying to play Black Ops 2 on both consoles at the same time, one console often (but not always) shows a moderate NAT. The connection in the game has been pretty atrocious since yesterday. I am not entirely sure whether there is something wonky with my service from my ISP, or whether Black Ops 2 has certain port requirements that previous Call of Duty titles didn't require. I will have to do some more digging.
Many thanks to those who know their stuff who participate in the forum. I appreciate it.

Please use the Multi-Pt2 rule in the gamefuel rule sticky or the 4500:

Ya..I'm basically having the same issues in Black ops2 and Halo 4 with one box getting mod nat , the other open..sometimes both have a mod..sometimes both have open..its maddening really. But since I changed back to motorola modem it does not seem to affect the games in a mod nat. I dont know what to think, maybe I should just upgrade to a newer router?? Any Ideas?? ..Or really maybe just leave it as is for now as long as its not affecting my game quality.

Try the Multi-Pt2 rule in the sticky. It works if configured right.

Done. I noted that when I went to edit the settings, the protocol was set to TCP rather than both. My previous settings also did not specify port 3074. But here are my settings now, which match the example for Multi-Pt2 that you provided. I can't get the text to line up but I tried.
GAMEFUEL RULES LIST
Name Priority Local IP Range Remote IP Range Protocol / Ports
Consoles 1 192.168.0.174 - 192.168.0.175 0.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.255 Both 3074 / 3074 0 / 65535

Awesome, glad it workd for you.
Enjoy.

I restored my dlink with the save file that we made furry , so I believe I'm already running with this rule...but alas with the same results for me...moderate nat on at least one box. Not sure where to go from here....Anyway..thanks for all your help furry.

Black Ops 2 is still showing that I have a Moderate NAT, even with the Multi-Pt2 settings. My connection was much better last night though, so I'm not really all that fussed by it.
Moderate NAT with a solid connection is much better than an Open NAT and laggy connection. It's not always about the NAT, I suppose.
-
is this the only xbox online? Is the NAT the same in a different game(s)?
-
Maybe we can take a look again. It should be open. Is this happening on all games?

What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Located near Toronto with Teksavvy Cable Internet.
Two consoles. One says Open Nat, the other Moderate. I tested this from the Xbox networks settings, and the second console is reporting Moderate NAT. So it is not just for Black Ops.
<<Edit - scrap that. They are both showing Moderate now.>>
I going to go back to square one. Something must have reset/reverted itself somewhere along the way. Once I have a chance to do so, I will report back.
For future reference while I have it already typed...
I have a Motorola SB6120 Cable Modem in Bridge Mode. I have a DLink DGL-4500 Router. There are many wireless connections (3 computers, 3 blackberries, an iPhone and iPad, Blu-Ray Player, Printer...) to the router, including the 2 Xbox consoles which connect wirelessly with static IP Addresses assigned.
I know I solved this at some point in time. I am having trouble recalling if it was before or after my move to Cable internet. I'm not sure how I could solve it for DSL and not figure it out for Cable though. Seems odd.
-
I have solved the problem for now.
I recall at some point in the past I was having some DNS issues. I had gone to the extent of setting the IP Address and DNS Settings on the consoles themselves to match the settings on the router and the DNS settings of my ISP.
I have set the consoles to Automatic for IP Address, and set the router (Setup/Network Settings menu) to Enable DNS Relay. The effect of this is that the consoles are automatically taking the same IP and DNS settings that they had been taking before. I'm not sure if or why that was the difference.
The only other change I made is to make my network G and N only. I had a couple of 802.11 B devices (don't laugh by old Nintendo DS handhelds from when my kids were younger) at one point that I was continuing to provide for.
Anyhow. Sometimes you have to go back to square one, and go through the "Sticky Note" step by step.
Thanks for keeping information like this on the forum and accessible to all.

Good to hear. glad you go it fixed.
Another thing you can test out is to input the DNS addresses or even try finding better DNS using Name Bench and input these new addresses into Setup/Internet/Manual then you can turn OFF DNS relay. This will get these new values out to the network. Try this later on if you like.
Hope it works well for ya, enjoy.

Hey Shawz!
DO you have your Xbox's IP addresses reserved in the router settings?
