Moderate NAT
« on: November 13, 2012, 05:23:14 PM »

 Hello everyone
I was just curious if anyone else has the same constant problems I do with getting an open NAT on xbox? I have 2 boxes in my home and for some reason I can not manage to keep an open NAT for both my boxes. Furry has helped me multiple times with setting up my router, and I seem to have open nat for both my boxes for a short time, but the next day without anything changing we all of sudden have moderate NAT on both boxes, for no reason..nothing has changed.
This was the reason I bought this router in the first place..anyway I was just curious if anyone else had experienced this and if so..how did you solve it?

Whats the model number of the modem? This DSL?

I'm curious if you unbridged the modem and put the 4500 WAN IP it gets from the modem into the modems DMZ if this would help.

I'm wondering if the modem is still somehow hampering a clean and proper public IP connection. Is the 4500 set up for PPPoE or DHCP?

Alright...just an update.
I had the cable company come out today and give me my old modem back. A motorola sbg6580. However now I am unable to access the configuration menu of this modem...brighthouse has it locked and will not give out the password. Anyway I am having them bridge it...I may need you to help me again Furry because in this process...i defaulted the dlink back to scratch.

My DGL 4500 has been working perfectly for about 2 years.  I bought it specifically because I was adding a second Xbox gaming console to the house and my old router could not handle more than one.  I have played Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops and Battlefield 3 with no connection issues (at least none that could be blamed on the router).

However, when trying to play Black Ops 2 on both consoles at the same time, one console often (but not always) shows a moderate NAT.  The connection in the game has been pretty atrocious since yesterday.  I am not entirely sure whether there is something wonky with my service from my ISP, or whether Black Ops 2 has certain port requirements that previous Call of Duty titles didn't require. I will have to do some more digging.

Many thanks to those who know their stuff who participate in the forum.  I appreciate it.

Please use the Multi-Pt2 rule in the gamefuel rule sticky or the 4500:
DGL-4500 Gaming and Gamefuel for XBL

Ya..I'm basically having the same issues in Black ops2  and Halo 4 with one box getting mod nat , the other open..sometimes both have a mod..sometimes both have open..its maddening really. But since I changed back to motorola modem it does not seem to affect the games in a mod nat. I dont know what to think, maybe I should just upgrade to a newer router??  Any Ideas?? ..Or really maybe just leave it as is for now as long as its not affecting my game quality.

Try the Multi-Pt2 rule in the sticky. It works if configured right.

Please use the Multi-Pt2 rule in the gamefuel rule sticky or the 4500:
DGL-4500 Gaming and Gamefuel for XBL

Done.  I noted that when I went to edit the settings, the protocol was set to TCP rather than both.  My previous settings also did not specify port 3074.  But here are my settings now, which match the example for Multi-Pt2 that you provided.  I can't get the text to line up but I tried.

GAMEFUEL RULES LIST

Name   Priority   Local IP Range   Remote IP Range   Protocol / Ports
Consoles   1   192.168.0.174 - 192.168.0.175   0.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.255 Both 3074 / 3074 0 / 65535

Black Ops 2 is still showing that I have a Moderate NAT, even with the Multi-Pt2 settings.  My connection was much better last night though, so I'm not really all that fussed by it.

Moderate NAT with a solid connection is much better than an Open NAT and laggy connection.  It's not always about the NAT, I suppose.

is this the only xbox online? Is the NAT the same in a different game(s)?
