No news on a new firmware.... Nothing for months....
-
Is there a problem with yours currently?
I'm sure the dev team is working on developments and testing.

Yes. That's one issue.
Others include random drops on my baby monitor that I have on the network. Random drops on my wireless printer that's on my network. Random drops on my laptop on the network. Basically everything but my iPhones and iPads drop the wireless signal and will not pick it up again until I either 1) reboot that device or 2) reboot the router

When I load that firmware onto my router it says it's dated 5 Dec 2013. So have they been sitting on this update since then, or do they just not care enough to properly update the timestamp? Either way, I am seriously unimpressed with DLink's lazy attitude toward supporting this expensive router. I think this will be my last piece of DLink gear.
-
Dude, there working on it. I presume that like most FW and code development, it takes time to fix things, test and make sure it works. I personally rather have good code that has been worked on well and tested well and not rushed to the public. I believe there are many people involved in the DGL-5500 development than just a few engineers at D-Link. Remember, the SB engine belongs to QualComm...
Give them some time and be patient.
You have only posted twice and have not provided any detailed information beside to complain about what you perceived as being "lazy" in FW development.
I highly recommend that you give us more details on your perceived problems so we might better help you figure out what is the real problem.
I've been using the v1.12 FW for a while now and it's been pretty solid for me.
I suggest you review this and post your finding in a new thread and lets figure out whats going on:
Router Troubleshooting Suggestions and Tips (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=54498.0)
If your not willing to let us help you then we'll consider this a user issue and not a router issue.

Where do we find v1.12 FW for the DGL-5500?

Look at my Reply #2 on this thread from yesterday.
Where do we find v1.12 FW for the DGL-5500?

Does the 1.2 work with the vita?
This is a deal-breaker for me I'm stuck 3 revisions behind because they changed something and caused the ps vita to crash the entire network any time it's connected.
-
There isn't a v1.2 however there is a v1.12...
I recommend trying the beta and see. You can always go back the current FW version you have loaded...
-
this beta firmware has been much better for me as far as drops are concerned, but I do still get the occasional signal drop from my printer and baby monitor. not NEARLY as often as it was, but it still does happen.
Also the config page for the router seems MUCH faster with the beta firmware.
-
What models are the printer and Baby monitor?
What are the current 2.4ghz settings?
-
Baby monitor = iBaby monitor
Printer = HP Photosmart eStation C510

Need to enable HT 20/40Mhz on Mixed G and N mode WiFi...
You can test channel width at 20Mhz only and test.
Then test manual channel 11...
-
Switched to 20/40 coexists and manual channel 11
Will let it go for a few days and report back
Also noticed that my ps4 and xbox 360 have TERRIBLE wifi connections. I will see if these changes help that as well
-
How far away are the consoles away from the 5500? Are they using 2.4 or 5Ghz?
-
Both 2.4 (ps4 doesn't have 5ghz) and they are about 25' away. No farther than other devices that are wireless and they are fine
-
So other devices are working fine on 2.4Ghz at this distance, however the PS4 does not?
Have you tested the PS4 with ALL other devices turned completely off?
-

Mind you I have a 50/25 connection
-
I recommend testing the PS4 WiFi connection speed at about 10ft distance from the router if you can.
What are the speed results on the PS4 when hard wired to the router?
Do other wireless devices exhibit this same speed result?
One other thought I had, knowing that some mfr of game consoles install WiFi adapters and are tailored to be somewhat held to WiFi standards, however going forward, there maybe some drivers with in these game consoles that may not be quiet standardized thus maybe introducing some problems between the WiFi adapter on the console and the main host routers WiFi. We've seen this before on Xbox 360 Slims.
One thing you could do as a test if you can get one, get either a 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz Wireless bridge and connect it to the 5500. Shut OFF the Wifi on the game console and hard wire the PS4 to the bridge and run some tests...This should have 2 results, good or the same I believe...
-
The system has a 100% signal. Do you really think moving it closer will make any difference at all?
-
Since we don't know how the PS4 determines signal str, we can only presume that the signal maybe good and probably is. However for troubleshooting, we should test at a closer distance to see of the speed increases or not. Signal can be good however we don't know what the actual speed the PS is connected at with the 5500 WiFi, the pipe between them could be at a low rate which would cause speed issues.
-
Honestly there's no way to move the ps4 closer. My entertainment center is all wired in a way that I would have to take everything apart to get the ps4 out so that's out of the question.
-
Any way to move the 5500 closer?
Is the PS4 sitting inside the entertainment center with other devices near by?
-
any status on this sir? ??? Care to try some beta FW or let us help you with this router?

It's not in a closed entertainment center. It's an open shelf type center. If it was just the ps4 I could see your argument but my old Xbox 360 is doing the same thing on wireless. I'm off tomorrow so I'm going to also try my xbox one on wireless to see if that does it also.
But there is really no way to move either the game consoles or the 5500. I didn't have these issues with the 4500 so it's not really a stretch to say it's the router
-
Well I've ran my xbox 360 on WiFi and didn't see any issues. Also ran a DIR-865L in bridge mode connected to the 5500 and the 360 connected to the bridge and didn't see any issues, however it was on AC mode and 1 room away at about 15 feet with one wall in the way.
Only issues I saw was a DIR-868L in bridge mode doesn't work well when connected to the 5500 in AC mode and thats a 868L issue and not a 5500 issue.
From what I know, there is some issues between Sony and D-Link thus there maybe problems with Sony products. D-Link is working to solve the issues with Sony and are aware of things here.
I'll I can recommend is that maybe running a direct LAN wired connection from the PS4 to the 5500 router or place a bridge on the PS4 in place of using the PS4s WiFi, and connect the bridge to the 5500. You can connect the xbox as well.
Please be patient while D-Link gets this resolved...

Given the rate at which firmware updates are released, if at all, it'll be until next year when we get an update that fixes the heartbleed bug.
-
Given the rate that which you didnt provide details about your router being effected and experiences seen, maybe you should phone contact D-Link supoort immediatly for help and information regarding this:

Are we talking days/weeks?

???

Hopefully by the time I get my DGL-5500 back from D-Link. Willing to give it one last chance, so RMA-ing it and hope third times the charm.

Keep us posted when you get it up and running.

Is this the 2nd or 3rd RMA? Just curious here.

Did you get this router in yet? ???
Second RMA.
-
FYI, D-Link is still testing and working on FW. They are validating some issues still being seen and want to correct them before releasing. I've asked D-Link to post a Beta version if possible. I'm hoping they will soon. Chrome and some other issues may have been fixed in the UI.
Please be patient.

D-Link is giving me the run around and indirectly refusing an RMA. :(

Can you explain what is happening here?

*sigh*
Nighthawk has released 7 updates since its release in October 2013, this router has had 3 since June 2013 and buggy betas that regressed from previous releases (Priorities reset after reboot and didn't in the last release, among other things listed in the forum) since then.
Now to be fair, the router "works", but resetting priorities after reboot and (may be related) devices higher on the list NOT getting prioritized are frustrating. Things not labeled right in the stats indicates to me an unfinished product AND therefore I don't trust that it is working to the level advertised (does not matter if it's Qualcomm's fault or not, the D-Link firmware is still on the hook here since they release it not Qualcomm).
I have been a loyal D-Link customer for at least 10 years and the urgency to give people features they want/need doesn't seem to be there. This router should be classified in the top model line and should be given much more attention then it has been getting especially since it's cost was top of the line.
UNLESS, they have given up on it OR this is a massive update, so given what has been shown so far I believe it might be the former. Being in IT, I understand how things work in dev cycles, testing and such, this seems like an unacceptable gap between releases.
I am normally a positive about tech, lenient with "work in progress" and would rather praise the ideas here, because I DO like the potential, but, patience are running thin with this investment right now. >:(
-
If all goes well in testing, we should see a new public release in the coming week.
-
Now that's some good news Sir Furry. I hope everything goes well in testing! Please just keep us in the loop. Next time there's a fw update I hope not to see the word Horizon. No offence but maybe dlink could have said late spring early summer for the next update. Gives us less of a ran around feeling.
-
Sorry man, on the horizon is the best I can do with the information I get from D-Link. There is some information that can't be made public for legal reasons so take no offense with "On the Horizon" is used. It's just my way to let everyone know that there is something coming down the pipe until it can be officially made public.
We thank you for your patience.
-

Well that is refreshing news, thanks Furry
-
;) Looks like one feature request got added. ;D Drag and Drop Priorities.
-
Oh sweet :) is it out yet?
-
Still waiting official release...if everything went swimmingly in testing. ::)
-
Generally speaking does dlink have a fw release day?
-
This week I was told. Please be patient and check the web site for it. I'll be posting it officially here in the forums too. ::)
-
No rush :) I know it's coming ;D
I was just wondering not only for this fw but for any dlink fw in general.
Some companies have a "day" they normally put fw/updates out.
Yet others it's out when ready.
So where does dlink normally sit?
Out when out or is there a normal day?
I guess also where would this fw sit?
Would it be on a normal day or out when ready?
Reason I'm trying to get some idea is I have stuff to move when it's time to upgrade.
-
I guess on a normal day when it's ready. We are never privy to an exact time or day when FW is released and posted to main suppprt.dlink.com web site. It just appears. You'll need to check here in the forums or keep checking the main web site.
