Title: Help with my DGL4500 router resetting
Post by: kingz489 on July 07, 2009, 05:32:50 PM
I have had this router since it first came out.  I have just recently stumbled upon this forum looking into possible fixes.  Pretty much every time my power goes out or my comcast cable modem gets unplugged the router goes offline for a long time.  Sometimes if I let it sit it shows "Online" and I get my internet back.  Sometimes like right now it does not come back.  I thought it might be a firmware issue that is how I came across this forum.  Anyone else have this problem that can suggest how to fix it please.  I disabled the DNS and voted no in the poll.   I cannot get this ting to work.  I have firmware 1.02. thanks in advance

Like so many of us here who are looking for assistance and some kind of fix, you are not alone! I myself found this forum with hopes of finding answers or a fix. If you haven't already looked at all the postings by a
lot of disgruntled DGL-4500 owners, may I suggest you do so. There seems to be a systemic problem with this router which D-Link is trying to correct

Thanks I will.  Currently I have my cable stretched out modem, tethered with a 3 foot cable to my laptop, while sitting on my living room couch.  All because it went offline again. I have never been more frustrated with a piece of electronic equipment.

Title: Re: Help with my DGL4500 router resetting and staying "Offline"

Well I did the install of the beta firmware.  Nothing has changed on my end.  I still can not get this thing to sync up with the internet.  It is rock solid "offline".  I have tried resetting it by using the button and thru the siftware.  I have tried starting over doing fresh installs with both the CD and manually.  I dont know what else to do.  This is an A1.  I can send my serial number to someone if needed.  the only thing I can get is for my laptop to recognize the wireless signal.

The new firmware released last week does not solve the 3 day lockup.   3 days on the nose it just locked up again.  I've talked to a couple of others who also have the same problem.

Do you have A1 or A2?

I have an A1 router also and have been experiencing issues since I upgraded from the 1.02 firmware that came that I loaded after buying the router. I have had this router since it first came out and have been having some of the various issues listed on these forums. Awhile back I decided to stop posting my issues since it was redundant.

Is there specific issues related to the A1 router vs the A2?

I have spent alot of money on this router and have not been satisfied with it since my purchase..

I will say with the latest 1.20, it has gotten better. Not fixed or perfect yet, but better....

I spent 200 dollars o something that has serious issues.  They should replace everyones routers. All I want is what I paid for, which is a working router

You should call them up and ask them politely to replace your a1 with an a2.  Lycan helped me out here on the forum and did ship me a new a2 last week to replace my defective a1.  I'm of the opinion that they should replace all problematic a1's with new a2's.  My a2 came with fw 1.12 which I ran for a day then I flashed to fw 1.16b3 which I am currently running.

Well, I called them and politely asked them to help me resolve my issues......  I spoke with someone obviously not well versed in either English OR technical issues and wasted an hour only to have them change my MTU setting to 1492 and then tell me that I needed to reenter all of my information into the router again to resolve my issue   >:(

Once I finally got her to understand the state that I am currently in, she said that even though I have version A1, I need to let the router continue on for several hours to determine if the MTU change will fix the issue.

She gave me a case number and told me to call back..... sheez, I'm really disappointed with this issue and more than a little frustrated.  Maybe that's what I get for living on the cutting edge and using the latest and greatest firmware.

Does anyone else have to reset their router every 3-4 hours??  I really wish there was a replacement for this thing that had the same functionality as I really like the current configuration and capabilities.  I just cannot live with the resets, especially when I travel and try to VPN back over to my home network.

Next time try and request to talk with a 3rd tier tech. 1 and 2 are well...people reading you a help sheet in very, very, bad english. But hey, all to keep cost down right D-Link ::)
