Is the A2 H/W version of this router any better than the A1? D-link is graciously offering a replacement or a refund.
Is there a comparable router designed with gamers in mind?
Thanks,

REFUND!

REFUND!
You seemed so "satisfied" for a few days with your A2, I take it things took a big turn for the worse?
-
No my a2 is ok however I was not offered a refund. If I had the change for a refund I'd take it and get something else. The op has that chance and I have offered my advice.

I would say take the refund as well. My A2 still has some wireless issues, although not even as close to being as bad as either of the A1's that I had. I have yet to be offered a refund but they're willing to give me a DIR-655 as a suitable replacement. To me, that just doesn't sound fair to replace a $200 router with one that's worth $120. Since D-Link is hard to get a refund out of, I'd say take your money and spend it on something that actually works.

After hearing about the crazy amount of problems many of you DGL-4500 owners are experiencing, I'd definitely take the refund.
I paid $187.00 for my A1 about a year ago and only experienced my real first problem this past week where I upgraded the firmware from v.1.15 to v.2.21NA and my DGL-4500 is CONSTANTLY losing complete connection with my desktop PC, my laptop, a home media server, and even the cable modem itself.
It's like the router decides to get itself into a perpetual reboot cycle without me ever commanding it to reboot. The only way I can get the thing working again is to disable the network adapters in each PC, unplug the router AND cable modem, and one at a time turn them back on.
.... the trouble is that 20 minutes later the router will do the same thing again.
I've tried downgrading my firmware to v.2.0 but that didn't help, but only made it worse. After an hour on the phone with D-Link yesterday, they weren't able to solve the problem and didn't offer me anything except an "RMA" in which i'll probably get a refurbished router that came from another person just like me.
Unless D-Link steps up to the plate and upholds their half of the bargain that was made when I forked over my hard earned money for a product that was supposed to work as advertised... i'll not only file a complaint with the BBB but the Chamber of Commerce. And make sure this will be my FIRST and ONLY D-Link router.
.... back to Cisco backed Linksys. They were always good to me.

Me too! I don't care what the stupid company policy is. This router just like many of your flagship products suffer from too many unresolved issues over a long period of time.

Well DLink had a change of heart. Since I'm outside the 1yr warranty they will not issue the refund offered but we offer the exchange.
THEIR FIRMWARE DESTROYED A DESCENT ROUTER.
I DONE WITH DLINK.

Thats too bad you didnt get a refund. I have a DGL-4500 and a 655 and they both have problems. I have trolled these forums for at least a month and a half and still no solution. I was hoping a downgrade may be possible somehow seeing as this has caused so many issues (mine also worked 1.15 with no issues) I would rather have stability than the lame shareport thing but oh well. I have also read their new B rev of the 4500 uses new internals (New Atheros stuff like the Netgear WNDR3700). Unfortunately, I cant wait for a solution to this issue. Considering I have spent quite a bit of money with the above two routers, and the fact they have sold so many of these at those price points, a solid backup solution should have been made (like basic no frill firmware in the meantime) before releasing firmware that rewrote programming and disallowed a downgrade. A very disappointed customer I am.
