excuse for my bad english
But I have the following question
when the beta is ready
and another proposal
make the path for the apps in /Volume_1/Nas_Prog/
authorization 777
-
I've been using the beta for a while now with no issues.
is /Volume_1/Nas_Prog not 777 already?

It was last mentioned July 2009, and it is now coming up on November. I am guessing not before 2010, but maybe I will be proven wrong.
-
Personally, I'm hoping they fix a couple of things first. I'd specifically like to see the anonymous permissions working with passworded accounts again. :)

their understanding of the word 'beta' is obviously quite different than the rest of the software world's.

Agreed. I once gave Jeremy a hard time for being negative and I now have to apologize. dlinks lack of response on this board and the lack of beta's lead me to believe they do not understand the process of a public beta program or a beta forum such as this. I'm very disappointed in dlink at the moment.
-
Unfortunately I don't have a release date and the beta firmware is still undergoing testing and updating. We do not ever provide a guaranteed release date of firmware for any products so the firmware will be out and available to the public when it is done with all testing.
-
I would like to know how the work on NFS support is progressing, and if it will be included in the final release of 1.08.

Apology accepted :)

The frustration is that many (myself included) feel that the entire point of a beta website realeasing beta code is so that the public can participate in in the testing processes. While I understand the importance of not tossing our every build compiled (though some sites _do_) it seems dlink treats thier public betas as more like release candidates than betas. We dont see much into the beta path ... and generally have no idea if our opinions are getting a voice.
There are some big bugs in the code that I'm not even certain have been acknowledged yet.
Anonymous Logins break when you enable password accounts
UPNPAV does not stream to Windows 7
ect...
-
I'd like to know about the anonymous login issue. :)

I don't think anyone is looking for a specific release date as we have been promised that before and were woefully mislead by one of your staff already. I think that the community hovering within the Beta pages is looking for updates, issues that you are experiencing, possible deal killers or things that are being added or removed to expedite the actual release of the software. I'm sure that you must at least keep track of these things and rather then treating us all like mushrooms (In the dark and fed on ****) a little tidbit of detail would probably go a long way to show that DLink is not just another faceless company ignoring their user base (as is the current "rumor").

I think this forum is soley for Dlink's benefit to get us to report bugs in the beta, rather than them giving us information about progress. All take and no give. I expect Dlink will close this thread soon too as it's not useful to them.
-
I agree entirely with the previous 5 posts, and only want to add that I will not be buying any more of dlinks products for my business.
-
This forum is for the community D-Link product discussion and public help from other customers. If me or any of the other mods have a chance to get on an help we are always happy to help and discuss issue you may be having and have the ability to report an issue or bug to the engineering to be fixed. Unfortunately we are never able to provide a firmware release date.

Obviously, a statement he'd like to take back. I doubt haranguing the D-Link folks here is going to change the release date.

Yeah but whats said is said, I've learned my lesson on dates :).
-
To be fair, you didn't say which July..... ;)
-
Touché...lol.

I understand that things don't always go to plan, but it would be nice to know if, when 1.08 is released, will it support NFS?

You have a qnap on its way to replace your dns, why do you care

I care because I own a 323

Which you've indicated an intent to get rid of.

Can you hear the church bells in the distance and see the tumbleweed as it blows past? Nothing seems to be happening around here. Any updates on anything Dlink?
Anyone there.....?
-
Nobody here but us chickens /cluck cluck.
Thoroughly testing firmware at this time is all I can say.

Chickens? Great, thanks for the update. So presumably if testing, all going well, there are no more changes to make to the firmware you have? Is the feature/bug fix list final now then?
Thanks.
-
Could we get an updated list of what's being tested? There are lots of bugs and other than "we are tstill testing" we have no idea _what_ it is is taking so long. I assume it can't be beta 5 at this point ...
Is the anonymous logon bug being looked at?
I NFS in/out/in again?
What about the uPNP server and Win7?
Maybe a new/cool curve ball like DDNS support (not one of those paid public ones, an internal DDNS for those who want to go crazy with our home networks)?
Just currious what coul be dragging things out like this.

Sooo glad I didn't wait to install 1.08 on my new dns..
Kinda curious what's taking so long, and what's being tested as well..
I mean Aug 28th the final build was delivered (as indicated in the now locked time frame? thread), and assuming you've been 'thoroughly testing' since then.. it's been a full 2 1/2 months of what I can only assume is the most extreme, and thorough kind of testing available to man..
So what's the verdict now? Is testing going well? poorly? Delayed by bugfixes?

What exactly are you looking for here?
The DNS-323 already supports free DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) services, including DynDNS and one hosted by DLink themselves.

As it turns out, the D-Link DDNS is really using DynDNS, so they're the same service. The older D-Link routers had this feature, but omitted updating the address at least every 30 days, so your free account would time out. It appears, though I'm not certain, that the DNS-323 and DNS-321 will actually do the proper updates. I've switched from the DynDNS client running on this machine to the DNS-323 updater, we'll see if it works. :)

Well it seems V8 is out on the UK site.
I installed it, reset to factory defaults, configured my two ST3500320AS drives for RAID1, did a scan disk, and have the following issues:
Volume Name: Volume_1
Volume Type: Standard
Total Hard Drive Capacity: -1 MB
Used Space: 0 KB
Unused Space: 0 MB
Plus can't resolve by device name e.g. \\nas.
... just hard booted and all seems OK.
I'm going to try the process above but with hard boots in between to make sure all is well.
Fills me with confidence. Not.
Tried again and for the second time after running the wizard and chaning the address details I get a popup blocked message. Then I wait and access the new address and login and get a page cannot be displayed message. Then I have no access to the NAS either via it's new IP address or name. Nor by it's old details. 5 minutes later I have access?
After numerous hard boots and resets all seem stable. Not sure if it was the lack of hard boots or the scandisk that caused it.
-
Well, doing a factory reset after changing the firmware is probably a good idea...
-
I did the reset from within the web interface. That didn't cure it. Only hard booting did...
-
I'm surprised they are different functionality...

Think I will be waiting for a few weeks after the release of V8. I am not trusting the quality of dlink code after dealing with the dir655 mess. And it seems every beta release a bunch of new bugs are discovered. I guess we will see.

Someone like me has been waiting for months......
Maybe Dlink doesn't have enough technician to test the release, or these is something wrong with test case/startegy/methdology development? Just personal guess...
