I think I will just return the unit , I should not have to go through all this to get it to function properly
 Thx for the reply's

These are quite basic settings to adjust since there is a lot of variation in network environments (modem types and ISP settings, DNS server configs, people with local DNS servers).
And we are still arguiing about the bug issue, either way the DNS issue is not that bad that it cripples the router. Just turn off the Automatic Uplink speed (never trust 'automatic settings  ;) ) and try adjusting the firewall settings, these are pretty strict and can be neutrlized (more or less) by setting them to Endpoint independent and unchecking SPI and Anti-spoof checking.

I don't realy understand what you mean, If it worked in firmware 1.11 why doen't it work in 1.21, I know a little about computers but much about setting's in a router and don't want really mess it up by changing thing's when I don't what effect there going to have. I'm still on the fence weather to keep it or not , So your answers are very helpfull thx.

...because they change things in newer versions of firmware and these changes may have some other inplications (things work together inside). But that is not the main question.

don't you understand (using the manual or having a look at http://192.168.0.1/Advanced/Traffic_Shaping.shtml and  http://192.168.0.1/Advanced/Firewall.shtml is always an option)? I guess you know what a firewall is?

For a router these settings are quite normal to adjust.

In Advanced - QOS Engine turn off automatic uplink speed detection.  Set a manual speed appropriate for your ISP subscription.
In Setup - Network, turn off DNS Relay
Reboot all computers and consoles

If this helps, it is a known bug in the 1.21 firmware.

I made these changes that you suggested and it did work, I haven't done a lot of testing yet

Not sure a but the other suggestions in the firewall part , what do I set them to ?

Endpoint independent, disable SPI and Anti spoofing -> http://192.168.0.1/Advanced/Firewall.shtml
This avoids issues with online games.

And be sure UPnP is enabled (enabled by default) -> http://192.168.0.1/Advanced/Network.shtml
This enables Windows to automatically open ports on your router (though sometimes you need to portforward or when you run a game server and have more devices in the LAN, Virtual server)
! You might have to open the ports on your internet device (modem) too. Setting UPnP on the modem does not work with a router in between.
