PROBLEM:
As noted, my WHS is disconnecting from my network. When it does so, the lights on my WHS stay on but I cannot access it via my clients
I have two clients:
1) laptop (wireless) - access to shared folders on WHS, and I remote in from this computer
2) HTPC physically connected to the router, and I have mapped drives on my HTPC to certain folders on my HTPC
When I lose the wireless connectivivty to my WHS on my laptop, I still retain internet on the laptop. At the same time my mapped drives on my HTPC become unaccessable but I still have internet access on the HTPC.
What I noticed tonight is that my Homegroup is still working. That is, my HTPC (Windows 7 Professional) allows me to share files across my clients. As such, I share all my files on my laptop (Windows Home Premium) with my HTPC. So when the WHS connectivity stops working with my clients, I still retain sharing across the Homegroup.
So this would support the point that the issue is likely not the router as it does seem to be providing internet and sharing across my Homegroup.
I am also see some errors in my Event Viewer as well. I have been assuming that the issue may be my WHS (Network Interface Card) but it is not giving me any errors. It is a Gigabit (10/100/1000) Marvell Yukon 88E8071. The driver is 11.23.2.3 (Dated 11/12/2009). I am looking to see if it has a driver update. Was on the Marvel site but am not sure just yet.
However I am aslo noticing that my Event Viewer in my WHS stops logging events when my server disconnects from my network. However my server looks like its on. Note it is a headless server so you cannot actually see what is going on unless you succesfully remote into it. Which I cannot do if it disconnects.
So based on this, I am assuming that the DIR-655 router may not actually be the issue.
Happy to hear your thoughts.
