link between two DAP-1522 is ko
« on: January 10, 2012, 03:01:16 AM »

hello,

my config : one DAP-1522 as an AP + one DAP-1522 as a switch, 6 meters between them, signal strength about 70. Any others wifi networks around my house. both with FW140b03.bin dated 01/14/2011.

Most of the time, both work correctly. But time to time, the wifi link is ko. In AP status, the switch is mentionned connected (uptime = 3 hours ...). The red led is blinking on the switch. The administration web of the switch is not available and the link is ko. Unplug and plug power units doesn't fix the problem. I need to reset DAPs.

From Dlink experts, i would like to get more description about issues :
- in switch mode, which are the events modifying the red led state ? what does blinking / off led mean ?
- in AP mode, what does "uptime ...STA ...." mean ? frames are periodically received from STA ?

thanks for help.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

Distance might be a factor here as well, test them any closer together?
What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

hardware version : A2    (do you known difference(s) with A1 and B1 ?)
firmware version : FW140b03.bin dated 01/14/2011

what i discovered :
- in switch DAP, wifi link with AP is initiated only if a LAN device asks an IP @. So, if the switch is powered or rebooted when a device is sleeping, it is not possible to wake up this device (which doesn't have an IP @). Evolution expected : initiate the wifi when the DAP is starting, even if there is 0 device connected.

- MAC @ used by the switch DAP to communicate inside the LAN stays the MAC @ of the first device connected to the switch after power up, even if this device is any more connected. (switch DAP don't use its own MAC @). Evolution expected : use the appropriated MAC (device MAC / DAP MAC). In my case, I reconnected my PC somewhere else in my network : with the same MAC @ in both place, that can't work !

about last FW 1.40  : UPDATE 01/11/12: I can confirm that the .bin file has been corrected as of 01/10/12 and should work now. File size is 3.1mb instead of 11Mb.  Where could i find this version ?

Make sure you get the FW for your region thats specific to your model.
It's recommended to get only what is posted on the sites.
Those of you who want to do betas, if available, thats an option too.

Enjoy.
