the SMC 8014 does not have a reservation capability I could find... but 8 out of 100 devices using static ips

To be on the safe sideI am adjusting the range to exclude the static IP i assigned for the DLINK 655

On the pass through .. I understand the principle... and when units are hardwired to the DIR 655  the pass through occurs just fine...  when wireless they  are visable on the intranet but port forwarding does not occur.. its like there is some bad juju in the 655

even after the exclusion  I still get a destination not found when i try to ping the dlink on the intranet

Have to remember that any port forwarding on the 655 in AP mode will not work or should be used. Any features of the 655 router is effectively disabled in this mode.

I would recommend that you bridge the ISP mode and use the 655 as a full on router so you can take better advantage of it's features and it will probably clear your problems up. This has the ability to handle and manage more things than your ISP modem seems to be able to do. If your ISP modem can't be bridged, try using the DMZ on the modem to input the IP address the 655 gets from the modem after you put the 655 back into Router mode.

once again i am not port forwarding  on the 655  I am doing that on the SMC8014 (or some number like that)

the local IPS being forwarded work find when physically connected to the 655 .. I assume that may be using it as  glorified switch....  have them come through the wirless side nada

anything I want to do as far as bridging the two is also defeated in that no one can "see: the 655

Also if I bridge don't I need two subnets??  I guess I could use a subnet just for the smc to the 655 but that would mean in current wiring I would have to move it next to the modem..and then I lose range for the last of the IP cameras....
