Recommended firmware for shareport
« on: April 09, 2009, 03:34:18 PM »

Hello!

I use my router for few months and I'm very satisfied with it. It is on firmware v1.11. Now I would like to use the shareport functionality, what was one of the reason why I've chosen this router. I know I should update the firmware to this. I've read a lot about firmware versions, but the opinions and experiences are very various. But the reliability is important for me.
Please help me, what is the best firmware now, and where I can download? Is there any official recommendation?

I hope someone can help me. Thank you!

Khoo, it is far from the release...  :-[
I've spent 3 hours to breathe life into the router.  :(
The lessons are:
- don't reload the configuration saved from previous firmware (-> forget it!)
- don't setup the configuration of the router with active internet connection (-> disconnect while you are configuring)
- don't try to set the time with time server (-> copy the time from your computer)

Benefit:
- usb share works.  ;)

1. Absolutely right. Although it can go either way (good/bad)
2. Why not? Never had any issues
3. Use the dlink timeserver, works all the times

2. Why not? Never had any issues

1. It is just an experience, nothing scientific.
2. I don't know the reason. I just know that the router collapsed minute by minute while it was connected and it measured and measured the line again and again. After I disconnected, it became configurable immediately, at first after the firmware update and saved the settings at last. (It took more than 1.5 hours while I figured out.)
3. I tried. But to set current date that needs to save settings. After saving, the router was in 1994 again and I should have started this again. Now it works with set date manually. I don't dare try to use automatic configuration. ;D I fear of it drops itself again.

And what also made me sad a bit, that using the share(d)port is exclusive (I connected a usb stick). There can't be concurrent use. Actually this is not shared, it is just "accessible".

But on the whole, I'm happy because my router works again!  :D

Happy Easter to you! :)
