VOip SIP use on a Dlink- 4500
« on: October 26, 2012, 12:07:58 PM »

We have a DID  SIP Voip phone line with 10 channels that is directed to our static IP address.  Using the one SIP phone line, one computer on our network takes all the calls on this number.  this is incoming only and has worked for 4 years without a problem.
We recently moved our operations to a new network that uses the much newer and faster 4500 router.  without any modifications this process worked, at first.  Now however we are losing our registration with our SIP provider at various times throughout the day.  To make things more complicated, our SIP provider has been hacked for the last two weeks making with side of the problem hard to detect.  At this point they seems to be back up, but we still loose our registration.
I have seen that many people have disabled the "SIP" button to make this work.  My understanding is that this action lets the customized pass through of the router and firewall for VOip SIP sessions.
My question is this:  How do I set up the router to let my VOip computer take requests unhindered on port 5060 through 5070 and how can I set this process to take number 1 priority over all other bandwidth traffic always?

TO confirm that this router is the DGL-4500?

If so,
I would take a look at DGL-4500 Gaming and Gamefuel for XBL. Just the ports for your SIP ports and use the global Remote IP addresses seen in the sticky since you don't need 3074.

Let us know if you need more help. I would also change the firewall NAT settings to Endpoint Independent on both TCP and UDP first and see if this might help resolve your issue. I presume that once you change to a different VoIP provider that there network system maybe incompatible or we just need to see if we can configur the 4500 to keep the VoIP going correctly.

We didn't change the VOip provider, the only thing that changed in our service was the router.  We are now using  the 4500.
I'm a bit confused on which section in the routers interface lets me open the ports for these SIP requests.  It seems that every router uses different terms for creating  these "paths"  through the firewall.  Of course I know that is more my problem  of understanding.......
On this router we have, gaming, "gaming fuel", routing, web filters, access control, firewall options, .ect ect ect, all of which could be construed as the way to do it and each with more acronyms than the law should allow.

I know some stuff, I know how to get my intranet IP  hooked to the static provider IP, but I honestly do not know how to get this system to make sure that the IP and Port are going to where they need to without hindrance.

Any help would be great.

Please review the blue link that I provided regarding Gaming and Gamefuel for XBL. This has screen captures and examples of how to use Gamefuel to set up ports for devices that need this. Fairly easy to use once you review the information.

Also, Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

I think the Multi xbox PT2 rule option should work, just use the SIP ports you listed in place of the 3074 ports seen there.

Again, test with Endpoint Independent first to see if this helps resolve it.

Thank you so much, that really did help a lot.  I'm still a bit confused as to the difference between the gaming tab set up and the gaming fuel.  They seem very similar, as does the virtual server set up.

I've made the changes, going to see if it helps., let me keep you on speed dial!  ;D

Gaming is more or less meant for 1 device and a range of ports. If you have more than one device using the same port information, VS or QOS will handle multiple devices using multi ports.

Hope it helps the SIP.

This is a good router and sad that it is no longer being made.

Keep us posted.
