DWR-921 4G LTE Router
« on: November 11, 2013, 11:58:41 AM »

Hi people.

First of all are 4G routers forgotten in this forum?  ???

I hope not I need help configuring QOS for the Xbox.

I know I have to open the folowing ports:

3074
88
53
80 (probably)

My question his, I know what is the local ip I gave to the Xbox but what is the remote IP?

And about the virtual servers, I have the following ports open for my Desktop but they appear closed

6400
6000
40664

what am I doing wrong? I find the menus on the D-link setup confusing no TCP /UDP options, probably im just missing my old USrobotics.

Thanks for any help.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Looking at page 38 of the user manual:
http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/home-solutions/connect/modems-and-gateways/dwr-921-4g-lte-router#

Look like if you followed this, you should be able to simply at rules for ports 3074:
Gaming and QoS for XBL

Review the Single xbox rule example in the sticky.
You don't need any rules for the other ports as they don't need any forwarding. 3074 is the important one only.

Hi,
I cannot open ports for forwarding on my DWR-921. >:(
I use it in 3G/4G mode. I have enabled UPnP. I have defined the port to forward in the Virtual Server screen, but the ports stay closed.

As Example I want to forward port 5004 for the alarm system 192.168.1.92 and port 88 for IP Cam 192.168.1.55. in Virtual server I input value 5004 in Service Port, 192.168.1.92 and 88 in Server IP : Port, then check Enable box. I do the same process for the IPCam and finally I Save Settings.

From the LAN everything works fine and I can access both the alarm system and the IPCam, but when I try to access the two devices from a PC connected to the WAN (outside the LAN) I get no result.

When I check the status of the ports (from inside the LAN) with tools like yougetsignal I see they closed.
I have disabled Windows firewall (all the three levels) with no result.

Both inbound and outbound filters are disabled.

I use DlinkDDNS to overcome the issue of the dynamic public IP and everything works fine on the LAN. Again I cannot access any resource from the WAN.

I ping the dlinkddns hostname, and I see the correct ip resolution but all the packets are lost.

Can you please help me in understanding what is wrong?

Thanks.  :D

I spent several hours trying to open ports for forwarding with no result!  :-\

I upgraded firmware to v1.01b04 with no result.

I used a couple of products for port forwarding support, with no result.

The programs work fine with an other router, as well as the IP Camera and the alarm system.

I am quite sure that DWR 921 firmware has a bug and port forwarding does not work, which make the router useless to me.  >:(  >:(  >:(

Please help to fix the issue.

Thanks. Aldo

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on Router
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
  • Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
  • Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
  • Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
  • Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature. Tools/Time.

Thanks!  :)
After further investigation I discovered the failure reason: I use Vodafone Italia as ISP and VF does not allow port forwarding on its 3G/4G network.

Reccomendation for all DWR-921 Italian users: the router works fine with Vodafone if you do not need port forwarding. If you do, like in case of IPcam or alarm systems, please select a different ISP / router (a cable one is much more suitable)  :'(

Thank you for sharing. Hope you can find an ISP that will work for you.

Good Luck.
