Sorry for taking a while to get back.  After going through all the steps it seems to be working okay.  I ended up upgrading the firmware after trying a factory reset.  Here's what I have found.  All wired connections top out at around 89mbps down and around 4.9 mbps up.  Decent.

Now for the wireless.  5ghz channel closely mirrors the wired connection, but if I run a few speed tests the router seems to lockup and needs a reboot.  Downloads don't seem to cause this, so I don't know what's going on there?  The 2.4ghz channel maxes out on speed tests at around 30mbps, but doesn't lock up the router with multiple speed tests.  Is there a limit for the 2.4 channel?  I have tried this with no other devices connected.  I wish I could achieve the same speeds on 2.4 since it reaches much farther in my house.

I recommend using IE for testing speeds. Were seeing many different issues using Chrome and is having adverse effects on these routers.

Always test your internet speeds using a wired connection. Using WiFi can not achieve the same results due to many variables on Wifi and external conditions and device configurations.

Your connections are only limited by what the devices are supporting, so some devices can use 5Ghz some can't. 2.4Ghz will not achieve the same speeds as 5Ghz. The connection speed is higher. Most speeds you should see should be fast however not as fast as 5Ghz or even Wired. Wireless regardless of band, will not ever achieve the same xfer speeds as wired connections. One the other hand your devices should be connected at the maximum connection speeds with the router. This is different from xfer speeds. You should be seeing anything from 54, 65, 130 to even 300 if your devices support that speed. Another thing to consider is using AES only as a wifi security option. It has the best performance of the 3 however some wireless devices don't support AES. Also using bandwidth 20Mhz can impact connections however Auto 20/40Mhz should work well for most devices.

2.4Ghz has better range than 5Ghz as 5Ghz works best in line of sight or maybe one wall room away. Any thing between the router and clients on 5Ghz will effect 5Ghz signals. Thats just the nature of the 5Ghz beast.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

I use IE and chrome with similar results in my setup.  As far as wired goes my speeds are good.  Even wireless is nothing to complain about.  I just wasn't sure what I could max out on 2.4.  I gather I should be happy with it.  My laptop connects at 300 so that helps.  My router is actually located in my basement which hinders 5ghz.  No biggie because I have d-link powerline adapters if I need to run faster.  AES is all I use.

I can see a couple other routers occasionally, depending on how the wind blows  ;D.  I'm rural around a lake and my neighbours aren't too close.

A little slower tonight but not bad.

One other thing, having a router in the basement is not recommended. It's recommended to put the router on the main level and central in the building for optimum use. You might want to give this a try.

I'd love to do that, but it's not possible at this time.  I run as many wired connections to switches as I can for devices.  Wireless is used mostly for our mobile devices.  It works well most of the time.

I might suggest if you need better signal upstairs from the basement, I would recommend using another DLink DAP model AP as additional wireless coverage, DAP-1360, 1522, 1525 or 1533.

I may do that since my router is far from my bedroom where my wife likes to use her netbook.

Thanks for all your help.   :D
