Router refuses to accept firmware
« on: February 02, 2010, 12:17:16 AM »

The Beta firmware that I got for D-Link DIR-615, Rev. B2, does not seem to pass on this router.

I'm currently using firmware v.2.24, as that's the last stable revision for this router, as far as I can tell, as v2.25 just makes my router spaz like hell, as I stated in this topic: D-Link DIR-615 bad firmware?

The topic says it's for Rev B, but the link to the beta firmware says B2.

... So... what do I do now? >_>

The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.

If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the device may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an 'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.

The Gateway will not be reprogrammed.

No matter what, even downloading a new copy, this is what came up. :(

I'm starting to think they don't want us to keep their products. I can't seem to update it myself and their is NO support on these forms. I'm going back to linksys I think. I refuse to spend $32.00 to speak to overseas tech support. It's annoying. (and why America is down on the dumps)

Yes, the BETA firmware WILL NOT load on the router. Enclosed is a screen shot. I'm sorry, but I'm having a little issue with staying connected on IRC and have given up on it.

Hmmm.  I was able to load this firmware on my DIR-615 B2 router without too much trouble.

I assume that you are using a wired connection.

Here are two things you might try, if you haven't already:

1.  Make sure you are loading the DIR615B2_FW227B01.bin file and not the .zip file.  (I made this mistake on the first try.)  It appears from your screenshot that you unzipped the .bin file.

2.  In the Tools/System menu, restore the router to factory defaults, then do a hard reset.  (See http://compnetworking.about.com/b/2009/03/11/the-30-30-30-hard-reset-rule-for-routers.htm for detail on how to do a hard reset.)  I believe that the hard reset will wipe out your configuration and router's new IP address will be 192.168.0.1.

Otherwise, I cannot think of any suggestions.
