First of all, I apologize for my stupidity. I have been wanting to get a NAS for a few months, because we just switched computers at home, and I would like to keep all important stuff (Music, photos, etc) in one spot so that we don't have to transfer from computer to computer...
I am not IT-savvy, especially compared to many of you on the board. I am looking for the BASICS of file transferring to the DNS--
I have the DNS set up on the network with two Seagate 1.5 TB hard drives in Raid 1. We are moving from a PC to a Mac, and I have successfully mapped the DNS to both computers. However, I just don't know how to do the basic stuff. I assumed I could use it like another hard driver, where I could create folders, and move files as needed. But everytime I have tried that, I am told I don't have permission.
I have run through the administrative stuff, created a new user in addition to the "admin", and updated the firmware. I feel like I have connected to the NAS and plugged in username/passwords. I have made sure my username has read/write access... But nothing works.
Bottom line is I just need some BASIC how-to's. I have run through the on-line manual, and the FAQ's, but nothing has gotten me to a point where I can move files over. Does anyone have any basic tasks instructions that they can point me to?
Again, sorry for the beginner question. I appreciate any help. I haven't called DLink support yet. Just wanted to see if any of you could help me out first. Thanks a ton!
