With respect ... 855 A2 firmware ... enough is enough?
« on: October 02, 2008, 01:09:45 PM »

Lycan
With respect to the fact that you guys are here and trying...
See DLink announcement http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/30587/97/

Quote
In a related announcement, D-Link said that it is making the SharePort capability available via a free firmware upgrade on all of its Xtreme N Gigabit router models (DIR-628, DIR-655, DIR-855, DGL-4500).

I begins to feel that the waiting for an A2 firmware update is becoming a farce.
DLink has announced new functionality for the 855 and other routers a month ago, yet net even a beta?
While I understand you hesitate to release new bugs, something really MUST be done, and very soon.

True, I'm esp. frustrated having a new 855 still in the shrink wrap, and wondering if it can even match (much less exceed) the new DIR-825!

Please give us some guidance ... or better yet a firmware release!

Thank You

Well I'm beginning to believe people who need real assistance from the forums should phone (or even write) to those who're responsible for the entire staffing.  Make a request that the forums here are better staffed because it looks like there's just none attending these on any regular basis.  They do call these BETA forums but do like I'm going to do and call their customer support number and ask for a manager and make your request official.

Firstly, you should know ..you have the option to ask for a State's side representative.  In most case this is totally unnecessary but if you're in the U.S.A. people should know the options and in this instance it would be best.

Let's see if we can move the forum support up a notch.  Questions like ours shouldn't go entirely unanswered.

I'm not sure what you are comlpaining about. There is a firmware update on the D-Link site to 1.12. It includes the USB feature.

You're complaint seems to be that we're providing features to a router?
Beta firmwares are released at my and other mods discresion. Because small net builder claims were going to do something, doesn't mean we are.
In this case the firmware you were looking for never went to beta, it was released directly to the support site.

Also these are forums. They're here for users to help users.
if you want official D-Link support contact the support number.
There are few mods and even fewer admins, the idea is not for us to answer all the questions, but for you people to help eachother. I understand that this is not always going to happen, but complaining about the support via forums is silly.

No, I think you are silly.

If you represent the company you don't call your customers silly. Do you volunteer?  I am assuming you're paid.  No one on this forum who buys D-Link products is someone you need to call silly.  Period. Call them banned or whatever but anything else just begs personal complaints.  There are some wealthy and powerfull people whom you do not know out here and to throw insults like this is a Yahoo chat room is just not acceptable.  Call me silly on the phone when it's just you and I and see how nice I am.  I was polite and have reasonable concerns.  The router and NIC weren't free!

Now, I wasn't meaning to imply anything negative to the people who work the forums but many forums ARE official support.  They are not only official support they also represent their employing company.  You have authority to ban ME but go throwing insults... just please, lets calm down and not be so defensive. I've read the unnecessarily sharp remarks by some of the staff on here to current D-Link customers and what bothers me is it's so EASY to not reply in kind to irritated customers.  I've had it to my ears with people who don't appreciate their jobs that involve helping people.  Not saying you don't Lycan.

I am someone who not only appreciates good customer support but I also know how stressing it can be therefore I have genuine respect.  This makes a difference in the business world.  I was not on the offensive Lycan but my advice is that you keep your personal opinions to yourself when you are working.  I realize staffing isn't high on many forums.  Mushkin (memory makes) use their forums for support almost exclusively as do many other companies.  Want me as a customer D-Link?

Okay these are not support forums.  I get it.  We get it.  I've had a long day with Buy.com customer support and may have to file a chargeback or fraud claim (1 month and no item shipped - shady as they come, I didn't check resellerratings!  :-\) and I'm not in the mood to read how silly I am to expect support on Official forums after I paid over $300.00 to this company on my first purchase.

Every single dollar I spend on an item is an investment to me in every sense.  I believe it's important to see things that way.  Now I expect some disagreeing forum members to lay into me, okay.

Seriously though arklab, did you check the support page first?

Thank you, Lycan and y2jdmbfan

Please note that I prefaced my post "With respect", which is my sincere opinion, as I'm well aware of just how many products you try to help us with.

Please also note that I've been posting, reading other posts, and waiting since before Sept. 24, at which point I had received BOTH a DIR-855 and a DIR-825 ... and this is the first help.

The latest prior info I had been able to find was

I've found an issue with this code and have removed it. I do however have a build 2 version.
I'll test it personally and repost asap.

I'm pushing for it, but to be honest that unit has been such a problem I doubt it will be anytime soon.

And, yes, I had been checking the DLink download site, but not for a few days ... assuming the much expected beta would come first.
My bad, I admit. :-[

Perhaps in future just note regarding new released firmware in the beta post might help avoid confusion.

I any case, Thanks for the help and keep up the good work! ;D

Guys the end of the day, this is not an official support channel. It's a forum for users to interact. We're encouraged to post here, not required.

As for the comment, I did not call you silly, I said the idea of complaining about Tech support presence in the forums is silly. Do not twist my words.

Now, because this thread as effectively been resolved, I'm going to lock it because of it's flamish nature. If anyone has a complaint about that PM me and if I feel the reason is valid I'll open it back up.
