I actually AGREE with a lot of folks on here as far as a later release goes.... Whether we are having definite issues or not, small feature enhancements are also nice in NEWER firmware.  I have a DI-624 that still gets updates and is a crappier router then the DIR-625 Rev A and it has more features in some respects, one is the ability to block certain websites for ad's etc... The DIR-625 does NOT have this which is VERY irritating... and as far as the Rev C goes you are still releasing updates for it???  So why don't you do the same for the Rev A folks?? You have never answered anyones question on why you are not doing this?

Just a comment but that royally sucks for some of us  >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(

Lets see if I can clarify. The decision to create new firmware is not made based on the features of a specific model or a later revision of that model. The Rev A is a different hardware platform then the rev C. The features that the rev C are capable of are not supported by the Rev A currently. I'm not even entirely positive that the A is physically capable of the C features.

When a car manufacturer comes out with a car model, then releases the next years version of that car and it has different features, you can't just get your older model car updated.
We understand that the C has more robust features and it's overall performance is dwarfed by this. We have made requests to our PM group requesting that if possible these features be added, however an ETA for these additions will not be given.

What is said here is fine and dandy, but I have a DIR-625 Rev a, and I just got a Dell XPS1330 laptop with a Intel BGN wireless card and my connection is still at 802.11g. The router is configured for BGN, no speed increase for anything.

Also, the older DI's had a better web interface and configuration was ten times easier than the newer routers.

Just to clarify, a router is not a car.  To make the same comparison is a 625 would be a 2007 model and a 626 would be a 2008.  I'm not sure where the revisions would fall in the comparison (The 625a is a Monday morning model and the 625c is a Wednesday or Thursday?)

So lets forget comparing the the auto industry, OK?

Anyway, all I see here is D-Link made a mistake with the revision A and won't admit to it.  They came out with the revision  C to fix this and have been making updates to it all the time.  I plan on replacing my revision "A" and you can bet it won't be a D-Link.  As I said earlier, those of us who bought the revision A were early adopters, and D-Link has just forgotten about us.

BTW, us early adopters are also the ones who others listen to.  i.e.  I am the one who my friends run to when needing advice on computer purchases.  D-Link just fell off my list of recommendations.   Mostly because of the kinds of replies I see from them here.

Later, and I mean, much later,

We add and remove features according to the SDK the unit is developed on. The DIR-625_C is a Ubicom platform. It's a much later version of the SDK then what was used from Realtek to develop the DIR-625_A. Ergo the feature differences. What determines if the unit gets a revision upgrade or a new model number is unknown to me. It would be my guess that the model specifically designates a "class" or position in our product lineup.

ahc11:

You cite your wireless statistics, implying that there is something wrong because there are errors. I calculated your error rate to be around 1 percent.

I checked my wireless statistics on my Rev_C 625 and I get the exact same error rate. I experience no noticeable problems when connecting my laptop to the 625.

If the error rate was 10 or 20 percent, then you should be mad. But a 1 percent error rate is hardly anything to get worked up about. That is the nature of wireless communication - it's far from perfect.

i dont believe at this point that it a problem with the wireless radio or signal, i believe it is the router itself. i noticed that the computers that are wired to the router via ethernet also drop out at the times i am having issues. its as though the whole router "locks up"
