Problems with UPnP with DNS-323 and network player
« on: April 15, 2011, 04:17:50 PM »

Hi All,
I'm trying to get the UPnP server working on the DNS-323 (FW v 1.09).  I have about 10 mpeg (mpeg-2) videos in a directory on the NAS, and I have the UPnP enabled and set to the directory (not root).  The server indexes the directory, and I can see the video files, but I can only play a couple of them, and not consistently.
I have a Sony SMP-N100 network player I'm trying it on, and I have also installed Boxee on the computer and both have problems playing files through the NAS UPnP service.  If I browse to the NAS directory with boxee (bypassing UPnP) it can play the same files.
Any ideas?  I've heard of some folks installing twonky to get around the weak dlink UPnP server.  Is there any hope of getting it to work with the native UPnP server?
TIA,
Walter

Well, I solved the problem by disabling the native UPnP server, installing the Fonz fun_plug and twonky 6.0.32.  With twonky I have no problems streaming UPnP to the sony device, boxee and windows media player.

@wamcneil - thanks for the update!

I have a similar problem with an Asus OPlay that won't authenticate to a share on a DNS-323.  UPnP was sort of working but not completely, especially not with photos.  I'd rather fix the original authentication problem, but if I need to stick with UPnP, I now know to try using twonky as you did.

[If anyone has an idea of how I should fix the OPlay authentication problem, I'd sure be grateful to hear your info/advice!]

Thx,
DH

You might try out the new beta firmware.  There were some changes with the UPnP server.  Maybe they fixed it?
