Thought I had made a post on this yesterday but must have not clicked send. If any of you are having problems with playing content on the Xbox 360 even though you can see the content in the list you may be experiencing a bug. Currently if the third octet of your Ip address is 0, ie, 192.168.0.X, the DNS-321 will not stream content to your Xbox 360. This will be fixed next firmware however at the current time the only solution is to change network IP schemes to something like 192.168.1.X until a firmware release is published. Sorry for any inconvience for those of you experiencing this.

Wow, that actually worked.  I changed my network settings and restarted everything.  The video played almost instantly and so did the music.  Thank you for the help and I look forward to this being taken care of.  Any idea of when the next firmware will be out D-Link?

We are still working on finalized DNS-323 and DNS-343 firmware so it will not be worked on until after we have officially released those.

I updated my ip schema and am playing stream Video & Music and viewing photos from XBOX player for the first time without being tied down to WMC.

My NAS is (RAID 1, multi-user, multi-group and quotas based file server, UPnP AV server, iTunes Server, LLTD enabled, BUT NOT FTP server enabled) and went thru most of the previously suggested setup suggestions.

I ONLY have noticed one other issue at this point.

I am unable to play video files of type (avi & mp4) but can play wmv videos via XBOX player. All these are playable via WMC from the XBOX & via WMP off the NAS server. XBOX support says avi & mp4 are supported.
I used Windows Media Encoder to convert the avi & mp4 video files to wmv and they stream play OK.

Can others play avi & mp4 OK? Are there some NAS config suggestions or other ideas that can be suggested.

Thanks again for the WorkAround!!! Once all the kinks are gone, this will definitely be the MOST competitive product of its kind.

So I made the correction to my D-Link DIR-625 and changed my DHCP settings to broadcast in the range of 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.104.

Currently, the DNS-321 is assigned the IP 192.168.1.104. I had my entire Itunes Library backed up to the drive in the folder: \\Volume_1\Local User\Admin\Music\Itunes\Itunes Music and all the songs in the folder were organized by artists. After setting up my UPNP server, the Xbox 360 would display the songs, artists etc. but would fail to play any of the items.

As such, I tested by moving a few songs to a new folder in the following location: \\Volume_1\Media

Guess what, that worked!! 

As it turns out, you cannot have your music burried in multiple folders. THe 360 will not stream it from the DNS-321 if it is more than two folders deep, as mentioned by an earlier poster.

I really hope this gets resolved since I do not look forward to rebuilding my 23GB iTunes directory. Any idea on a vague firmware release date? 1 month wait, 2 month etc.?

this is a basically a double post from the PS3 thread, but since I just verified that it's working on both my PS3 and 360...

It's working on mine, but where I thought I had a problem, was just something that took time.

My Setup:
DNS-321 fw1.01
DHCP based IP in 192.168.1.x range
RAID 1 with 640GB
I unchecked "root" and set it to use \Media
I put my files in Video, Pictures, Music directories respectively (with lots of sub-folders)

PS3 fw2.60, static IP

Initially, when I did it, only music files came up (the first thing I set up), now several hours later, all my movies and photos show up as well.

One annoying quirk, on the PS3, when I tell it to browse by folder, it starts with the Media folder, rather than Music, Pictures, Video.  I expect that since the share point is Media, that the PS3 should start with the contents of Media, not by making me select the  Media folder



Anyway, the core point is, if your PS3/360 connects to your DNS321, but shows no files, it may be that the DNS321 is still processing the files.  Just like Windows Media Server does.  It takes time.

Just wanted to drop in and say thank you for figuring out this bug.  I was really banging my head against the wall until I found this thread.   reordered my network to *.*.1.* and all is well. 

Looking forward to the firmware fix.
