No router will work perfectly out of the box. It just can't, they are not designed to. What I mean by that is they are configured by default to be as widely compatible as possible to save on call volume for people calling in because it doesn't work. So by definition, widely compatible is never going to be perfectly specific to your network needs. Its like buying a "one size fits all" suit and thinking it will be tailored. If your asking for personal preference I would go with the DIR-627 but thats because I hate internal antenna. I just see no point.  However your personal needs and preferences may be different.

The new canister antenna configuration have proven to be a better than the 1st generation internal antenna since it better provides a 360 degree signal broadcast now.

Not saying your wrong, but could you quote your source? Most external antenna are Omnidirectional so form a spherical donut shape with a void directly above and directly below. Most in internal antenna are PCB types so vary depending on the antenna design. My main reason I don't like internal is any antenna inside the router will work better outside the router. Also, with external you can repair/upgrade them to high gain. I think the main reason manufactures are switching to internal is because PCB is alot cheaper then those with external and PCB allows for beam forming tech. Beam forming, if implemented wrong, can cause all kinda of problems though. Just ask the DIR-657.

I do agree with some aspects of what you respond with, ya it's nice to have the ability to upgrade to high gain 3rd party antenna. However I presume that being a home and small office portion of the market, I presume that marketing for the internal routers and maybe the ease in design, development, mfrg and use makes having internal antenna a better option in some cases. Some cases. 

Beam forming tech in the 657? I don't remember that being apart of the 657 series. Could you be referring to the 645?

I believe the 657, 827 and 857 are all using the similar internal antenna flat form technology which is different from the 645's internal antenna configuration. I think the 645s antenna configuration is a definite improvement over the flat based internal antenna of the other Amplify series routers.

So I bought a DGL-4500 last night  Someone said they would buy it from me for $90 so I get to play with it for a day or two then sell it and make money      But I`ll most likely be sticking with the 826L Just waiting for Tuesday to come:)

The NewEgg Sale? Yea I`ve had that Tab up for like 2 weeks now  haha been deciding on it heavily til I ordered the 826L
