After a year of fine performance my DIR 625 has suddenly become a massive headache. It seems to either be stuck in constant rebooting every 5-10 min that affects both my wired and wireless (N) connected computers. I've changed nothing on my end, and the problem is definitely the router as my wired PC is fine when plugged directly into the ADSL modem. I'm having a really hard time isolating the problem as it seems like so many variables are in play. Could it simply be a case of the router going bad due to hardware failure?
Here's a Coles notes of what I've tried to fix this:
- Power-Cycling (unplug modem and router, plug in modem, wait 2 min, plug in router)
- Factory Reset
- Firmware Reload (1.09)
- Manual Channel Selection
- Turned off UPnP
- Turned on MAC Filtering
- Changed router IP to 192.168.1.1
I'm using DHCP and am cloning my Wired PC's MAC address as I'm using ADSL from TELUS.
I would really appreciate help with a) narrowing down the diagnosis to solve the problem or b) determining this is hardware failure so I can just bin this router and buy a reliable replacement.
I find this really difficult to test since it basically requires me to change one setting at a time and surf the web continuously until the connection drops. Then I goto the router and check what the log tells me and often it doesn't tell me anything at all. In fact, I've had the router DHCP go to "Disconnected' in the Status page and the log doesn't seem to be aware of it.
BTW, my wired and wireless PC's don't show a disconnected message when the internet drops, so I'm assuming atleast that the LAN is fine. Also I was running Bittorrent perfectly fine for a year. The current problems I'm having are basically with no internet activity besides one browser session!
Thank you!
