changing the volume label

Hi all, i went through the admin console but I can't find where to change the volume label.  does anyone know where I can change the name?

If you are trying to change "Volume_1" or "Volume_2" to something different, I do not think it can be done.  If you you must have different names, create a new SMB mount point on each disk with the name you want to use.  I found the steps somewhere in this site.

Users have found a way to change the volume name on the DNS-320. I would be very cautious about making any type of non-sanctioned changes to the DNS-323, as this type of modification is not intended by D-Link and has the potential for compromising your data.

Ask yourself if this is "really important" before moving forward....

My question would be, what are you trying to accomplish that requires renaming the volume?

I have two identical hardrives in there right now and both are flaky. or it could be the DNS 323 that's flakey, but probably one or both hardrives.  last time apparently one of the hardrives failed, but the light on the front of the unit didn't indicate anything.  so i wanted to name both labels as "volume_left" and "volume_right" that way which ever one dodn't work in windows, I know which hardrive is causing it.  i guess I can remember that the Y: drive is the left hardrive and the Z: drive is the right hardrive.  i just thought I can rename volume labels.

The drives can easily be tracked by serial number.

Yes. Log into the DNS-323 web UI and navigate to STATUS > DEVICE INFO > PHYSICAL DISK INFO

Maybe this is not what Velocci intended, but couldn't one assign a drive letter (Easy search utility) to have it show up in windows explorer.  Then in Windows explorer could one right click, select rename, and rename the drive in windows explorer (just as you can any other drive on the computer)? Disclaimer: I have not tried this, so I wouldn't know if it adversely affects the data on the drive.

I had no problems renaming the volume in Windows - after - I mapped it to a drive letter.
