What is a NEST controller a Nest Thermostat?
I have 2 newer ones and they seem to be ok. It's just the Nest Protects that I can get to connect but they then can not finish their once a day connection. I have a 1st gen and 3rd gen thermostats. I'd try a reserve IP but they never show up on the Connected Clients page.
Device priority (Quality of Service) also I can't as they are never on the Connected Clients page.
They say to disable Beamforming but I don't see that option.
Users can't disable beamforming. I guess I'll disable the Smart Connect and see if that helps. Not sure why if it connects to the 2.4Ghz network only but their guide says:
2.4GHz and 5GHz network namesIf you’re using a dual band router with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, make sure they have different names. Nest Protect cannot connect to a 5GHz network and may not be able to tell your networks apart.
Most IoT devcies are only 2.4Ghz and will never see 5Ghz. So if Smart connect is enabled, then they will only see the 2.4Ghz wifi signal. It's when it comes to the setup software or the IoT app that gets confused due to the fact that the setup device, i.e. phone or pad CAN see and do use 5Ghz while the app doesn't support 2.4Ghz, even if the setup device is connected to the 5Ghz, the app software wants the setup phone or pad to be on 2.4Ghz. This is a limiation of the mfrs setup software. They fail to realize that the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios are on the SAME NETWORK.
Let us know if disabling SC helps get them connected, once connected you can re-enable SC and see if they remain connected. They should if you keep the same SSID name and PW.
