Replacing DNS-323 with another DNS-323

Hi,

I need to replace a DNS-323 with another DNS-323 and keep the drives.  They are 2 x 500 GB in RAID 1.

Is it just a matter of poping the drives out of the old one and then into the new one and recreate the shares?  Has anyone actually tried it with success ?

No reason it wouldn't work.  Why are you replacing the first unit?

Got a brand new one for free and want to give the old one to my sis.

I am asking this because I am not sire what sort of configuration is kept in disk or memory,firmware.

The only thing to note is the firmware version, match those up before you do the transfer.

Just a feedback in case somebody else is trying to do the same...

Yes it works!

1) Make sure both boxes are running same firmare version.
2) Replicate same user accounts and groups on the new box.
3) Remove HDs from old device.
4) Insert HDs in the new device.

This is good to know in case I come up with a unit with hardware version C instead of my version B.

Did you restore the configuration using a config file or by dong it the hard way (manually)?

I strongly suggest doing it manually, less chance of a change in the parameter structure screwing you up.

Since I only had 3 users and 1 "Admin" group it was pretty easy to do it manually.
