Hi all,
First of all I need to clarify that I am not a complete newbie but I am not an expert either so I am trying to learn from the forums as much as I can but still running into quirks so I decided to post the eissues and see if i can get a direct response.
The hardware:
Router: DIR-655 Hardware Version: A4 Firmware Version: 1.32NA
Computers:
Wired
Desktop 1: Windows XP SP3 professional
Desktop 2: Windows 7 32bit
Wireless:
Desktop 3: Windows 7 64bit - DWA-130 C1
Desktop 4: Windows 7 64bit - DWA-130 C1
Laptop: Windows XP MCE SP3 - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
Lexmark S405 printer
The IP range is set to 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.254. Whenever I try changing the IP range it gives me errors saying the IP is out of the allowed range. I tried setting the IP range to be from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.600. The idea was to have each computer have a range like 192.168.0.100, 192.168.0.200, etc. Is the range only allowed to be up to 254? In any case, I changed the range back to 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.254 and tried to force the assignment of IPs to each computer by reserving the ips manually as 192.168.0.100, 192.168.0.110, 192.168.0.120, 192.168.0.130, 192.168.0.140 and 192.168.0.150.
When I reserve the IPs and restart the machines everything goes crazy. The wireless computers will pick up the new reserved IPs just fine but the printer and the wired computers just won't connect and report that there is no connection to the internet available.
If I release the IPs everything goes back to normal.
Can I force IP reservation like this or do I need to start the computers, let them pick up the IPs and then reserve whatever they get?
Thanks in advance,
FayeC
