continually losing connection to router
« on: January 11, 2010, 10:46:34 AM »

The problem: after some random amount of time my computer, which is connected to one of the router's LAN port, is unable to see/connect to a printer connected on another LAN port. When that happens I am also unable to connect to the web based configuration utiltity - get error: The webpage "192.168.0.1" cannot be found. It's as if the router has become invisible to my PC. The strange thing is, I am still able to connect to the internet.

The only way I've found to fix this is to reboot the router.

I'm a novice at this andf just wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Hardware A3, Firmware 1.32NA

Thanks

I have a similar problem, but cannot connect to anything on the internet. Can't even access the router config page. This started happening to me after I installed firmware 132NA.

Your post was very helpful to the OP and probably solved their problem.

You bought a new router so why don't you stop trolling threads in this forum.

I had the exact same problem last night.. laptop was still connected via wireless to the router, but i had no internet access. I tried to connect to the router configuration page and it wouldn't connect to it.
I was able to ping the router, just couldn't surf or connect to the router.
I wired up the laptop to see if it would be able to load up the router config.. same thing, cant load page.
In the end nothing else worked but pulling the power on the router and rebooting. This is probably the 15th time this has happened to me in the last year.
This router really sucks.. and from what i have been able to gather on these forums, there is no solution in sight.
Can anyone suggest another router that has the same features, or if someone has a solution to this problem that i somehow missed.. please post it.

I too am having the same problem.  Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel.  I have to power cycle my router and it is good for a few days or a week max, and then I have to jump on the merry-go-round again.

Anyone call dlink? If so what is their response to this problem? How can they put out a router like this and not fix it?

Yep, same problem for me.

The only way I could get my internet access going again was to:

1. Turn off router.
2. Turn off cable modem.
3. Turn on cable modem.
4. Turn on router.

It got so bad now that i just put the router on a power strip and just turn on and off the power when it starts acting flaky.

Are your routers vertical or horizontal?

If horizontal try vertical as it dissipates heat better.

I can tell you that this does not work. It happens whether horizontal or vertical.

Mine too has been vertical since the day I installed it (as there's no room for any other orientation).  Nevertheless, plenty of airflow.

My issues don't seem to be heat related as best I can tell.  The device seems pretty cool.

That is EXACTLY the problem I am having. This started about 3 weeks ago and it seems like every few days I have to restart my router or else I finally lose the ability to go to the admin page and I can't browse the web.

Any of you have verizon, I had the same problem for the past 2 months.  I've had this router a few years now and never had this problem till a few months ago.  I think it may have something to do with Verizon, because for 10 years now I never downloaded their software or used them in any way other than my DSL access.  Well yesterday I reset my Router & Modem back to Original Defaults, cleaned my registry, etc.  Then I set up my modem but this time I did it thru the Verizon Connection Software, then after that I connected my DIR-655 and set it up.  I haven't had one dropped connection or problem since.

So if anyone has Verizon I suggest doing this and see if it helps.  I know Verizon is getting more adamant about wanting you to have their software on your computer.  I stillw as able to limit what I put on my Rig.

Hope this helped someone!
