Samsung BD-P4600 blu-ray player
« on: January 14, 2010, 11:41:01 AM »

I want to stream from my 323 to my new Samsung BD-P4600 (blu-ray player). It is supposed to be able to stream from a Windows 'Shared Folder'.

I can get the player to detect the 323 but not login and connect or show files.

Has anyone been able to get it to work? I'm using v1.07. Will 1.08beta work?

Thanks

Hi

I'm assuming you have got no network access restrictions setup on your shares or you have but have had no luck with the usernames and passwords you expect to work?

This NAS box is running Linux. Maybe your player only supports Windows shares?

I've removed all access restrictions until I get it working.

The player can either search automatically (it will discover but not log into the 323) or it will log in manually through user specified ip address.

I'm not sure what you mean. If you enter the IP address of your NAS in the bluray player it works?

If I use 'Auto' find, it finds the NAS, it then asks for user/pass, then it displays an error "No program detected"

If I use 'Manual' find, type in the Ip address, it then asks for directory, then user&Pass, then it displays an error "No program detected"

Just a thought. Do you have the DNS 323 UPNP server program turned on? I suppose it might have to be turned on for the Blu-Ray player to see the media??

Also as a suggestion check the requirements in the owners manual for your BD.  Some file systems are usually not supported like NTFS.  It may require Fat32.

I hadn't thought of the fat32 but the book doesn't specify it, only says a "Windows XP or Vista shared folder" Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Samba (smb) a windows sharing protocol?
I've heard the NAS's Samba config needs a slight modification, I am still researching it.

I tried the firmware beta version 1.08 last night, making sure the smb , UPnP, media server, etc were installed and running. I even put in the bonjour and firefly addons.

The player is defiantly logging into the NAS because if I enter the wrong User/pass it comes up with an incorrect password error. When I enter the correct info, I get a "No Shared Folder" message.

So, If I can find and log into the drive, how do I emulate a "Windows shared folder" on the 323? Third party samba?

I have seen the DNS323 asking for Username/Password and failing even if you put in the right combination before. Those times I was trying to access the folders on the DNS323 from a windows box. That was mighty strange I usually solved the problem by rebooting the NAS and the machine. Before you go crazy with Samba tweaks may I suggest a shut down of the dns 323, a shut down (power down/plug out/ethernet out etc.) of the Bly-ray and then retry as though starting anew.
