Help with Setting up e mail notifications
« on: January 17, 2010, 07:07:12 AM »

I have the DIR 655 with current firmware, a DNS 323 and a DCS 920 all are supposed to have the capability to send a email alerts. I have been trying for some time to get this to work. I gave up on my hotmail account and opened a gmail account, and low and behold my DNS 323 is able to send alerts. I enter the same information into the router and camera and I get nothing. the DCS (ipcamera) says invalid  mail sever. Id really like to use this feature any input would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for your reply I should have mentioned that was the first one I tried, since then Ive tried a few that will not work as well.... but the gmail is working on my DNS 323. Very strange, such a easy thing to set up.. The camera always says invalid mail server no mater what..... Bell is (smtphm.smpatico.ca) port 25 or 587 Ive tried both ports and I always retype my password to give that the benefit of the doubt. It is using the latest firmware and so is the DIR 655 witch will not send any alerts ether.....I hope I never get any really bad problems something this simple with very little information needed to input can be so useless.

Thanks again ryan200

Hi Ryan,

I have Comcast with more than one E-mail Address. It works with Comcast.

How it works, is that you don't send from the Email Address you are sending from.

Send from one, but receive from another Email Address.

Ex: Send from thecreator2010@comcast.net and receive what was sent to / at creator@comcast.net.

You hit on the one issue that I'm disappointed in. Before my ISP SBC/AT&T switched its SMTP to port 465 and began requiring a secure SSL connection it worked fine. Since SSL has been required it has never worked.
