FTP file permissions issue ?
« on: January 18, 2010, 10:50:28 AM »

I have my Dlink DNS323 - and it's set up as a FTP server off on of the directories I have created on it... It's behind a firewall, but I am using dydns to forward to it and it's set to use my external IP address

It appears to be externally accessable as if I access is from another site (ie not on my home network) - if shows me a list of my files one the Dlink username and password has been entered into it... However, it gives me a login denied when I attemp to actually download a file..

My firewall router is forwarding port 21 (it shows a list of files)
I have changed access to the FTP user account from Read Only to Read/Write to root
I have deleted and made a new account and tried it (same problem)
I uploaded and applied the latest firmware...

I am a bit confused - it looks like a permissions issue on the file within the directory - but am having a hard time trying to figure out what is going on... Help

That same sequence works fine here, I don't know what's going on there.

trying opening/forwarding port 20 as well, as port 20 is for ftp data, and 21, which is already open, is for control.

wiki - ftp for a better in depth explanation.

I am have the same problems and have done the exact same. I am running firmware 1.07 and have noticed this does not happen when you use a anonymous, no username or password.

For those that have no problems are you usin a username and password? What firmware are you using?

I think I have found the problem...

http://forums.iis.net/t/1154259.aspx

Are you using IE? If so which version?

Bug in IE 7

Alright...Simple problem simple soluntion.

Internet Explorer does not support anonymous FTP login, somewhat. You may be able to login to the FTP but when attempting to download from the FTP IE7 uses an anonymous user.

This explains why it works fine for me when I have no username or password setup on the DNS-323!! :)

Easy solution......use WINDOWS EXPLORER and not INTERNET EXPLORER.

>>Right click on start menu>>Explorer>>in the address bar type>>ftp://(yourname).dlinkddns.com>>

Try it again.......

Let me know if it works!! :)

Worked for me!!
