Xbox issue......Resolved with the help of FurryNutz
« on: January 26, 2010, 07:57:16 PM »

When I set my Xbox up with a static IP It won’t connect to Xbox live unless I turn off and restart. Another way it works is if I unplug the cable from the router or Xbox and plug back in. I’ve tried different cables and firmware, even upgraded to cat6. My Xbox is wired and all of my 3 computers – 2 wireless - work well without problems. I do have my Xbox in the DMZ. Static IP’s match in my settings within my console and my router settings. I also made sure the IP address is not being used by any other computers or Blu Ray players. I have it set to 192.168.0.178, everything else is in the .190’s. Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?

Did you make sure that the xbox is not set up in Network settings to automatically pickup an IP address? You have to make sure that the xbox is set for Automatic. FYI, mine is set up by using the Gaming and Gamefuel instructions, however I don't have the xbox on the DMZ.

It's set up manually not automatic, I had  it set up the same way with my previous LS router and everything worked fine.

Needs to be automatic on the xbox since your using static assigned IPs on the router.

I'm confused, and new at this. I thought the settings in my Xbox and router had to match. How will the Xbox know what IP to use?

When I set my Xbox to automatic, it uses 192.168.0.199 not 192.168.0.178 like I have it set to use in the router.

I would edit the reservation to reflect the 199 address. Be sure that your xbox is off when you edit the reservation. Make sure that your editing and reserving the right IP address and Mac address associated with the xbox. Once this is done and saved in the router. Then power on the xbox. It will pick up the assigned address. Sounds like the xbox is keeping the wrong address for some reason.

Thanks FurryNutz, as it turns out I made a few mistakes. One - I never saved after making the reservation in the router, or mabe it reset during a firmware upgrade. I thought it had to be manually configured in the xbox settings as well as the routers. The xbox has to be set on automatic. I'm glad I joined the forum today, and now I can enjoy my new router - Thanks again
