All I had to do was open the packaging and plug it into the console.

Hi,

Do you have wireless encryption on your router ?

There are certainthings you need to do to get towards the 300 Mbps wireless speeds that .11N promises...  read the sticky about it

opening the ports did nothing to correct this issue. Once again I am out of ideas, but I will tryo to call support again tomorrow.

I am hesitant to buy a third party adapter for a couple of reason, but mainly because I cannot return the microsoft adapter for a refund any longer. Too much time has passed. I really want this to work for me.

I think you can be pretty certain the Xbox adapter is not faulty and you should keep it.  Perhaps a Cheap wireless Access Point will serve better.  You can buy a new one, but if you live in an urban area, buy one off craigslist.  Be sure to search for the exact model number on craigslist because searching for 'wrt*' does not yield the results you want.

Also, a 5Ghz Access Point is recommended for reduced error correction in a densly populated area.

So I am clear....you are suggesting that I turn off the wirelss features of my Dir-655 and plug a wireless access point directly into the router. Then use the microsoft adapter to connect the 360 to said wireless access point?

If you can not return the 360 adapter and can find a cheap WAP, then yes, that is my suggestion because myself and everyone else with 655 wireless woes knows the problem will not magically disappear nor will it ever be fixed by a future 655 firmware update.

Try to avoid 5Ghz if there are many walls between the newly place WAP and the 360 or if the 360 is very far away.  If you live in an apartment though, get 5Ghz regardless and do not get 2.4Ghz gear.

I have unfortunately become aware of the issues suffered with this and other d-link products and am EXTREMELY grateful for everyone's help.

I am damn near ready to write this router off and get a new one since I am certain it is the cause of the problem. I will look into the wireless access points as you suggested and maybe shop around for new routers. I am just not sure where to turn if I do buy new since I have had bad experiences years ago with LnkSys products and NetGear too.

Hi,

There are some recent threads about how to downgrade the router back to a pre-1.3X firmware.

Having never used the specific adapter you are fighting with, I can only suggest that maybe you revert back to firmware 1.21 without securespot.  I say 1.21 simply because that is what I run here so I am most familiar with it.

I think I recall your original postings syaing you had tried 1.21 so altho it may not be specifically what might help you, it may well reduce the number of possibilites since so many folks have had wireless issues with the 1.3X versions....

Don't dump the router just yet....

Disable QoS Engine in your router.

So far so good with the downgraded f/w.

Also....

I sent D-link an email last night describing my issue and suprisingly received a response today requesting more information. Just thought I would let you all know.
