Hi Nina-Sky,

First of all, you aren't very forth coming with information. You stated that you have an IP Address, but haven't post it.

You never mentioned your Computer or its operating system.

Do you have more than one computer?

Are you having the same problem on all computers?
have a dell 435mt, vista 64 bit, only one pc.

How about take the router out of the picture, connect your PC directly to your wall-jack or however else you get online and open up a command prompt, do an ipconfig and tell us the IP address you pull?

Actually, don't post your whole public IP if you're getting one, just the first 2 octets would be fine.

Well the way I figure it, their building is hooked up with ethernet and a central server located somewhere within that buildling. Similar New Brunswick and parts of B.C where they are experimenting with Fiber-to-the-Home. Yay, Canada decades behind the U.S. hah. oh well.

So each person in that building is sharing the one connection, whatever it may be. Sure, lan is 100/100 but the actual connection could be something like 50Mbit/5Mbit. So one or more people are torrenting like mad, which the landlord/caretaker is probably participating in. Why wouldn't he? I sure would.

So there really isn't much that can be done other than to bring it up with the buildings caretaker/landlord and perhaps that landlord, if there isn't some sort of decent server/firewall, should be looking into a solution that would involve shaping the traffic or at least distributing the traffic accordingly. If Nina. is getting a public IP address then I am guessing that the building has an alotted amount of IP's purchased through the ISP for each tenant or a modem for each apartment in a central location easily manageable.

It definatly would be something to look into. We could suggest everything in the world to help Nina, but if what I stated IS infact the case, then our efforts will be in vain. Certainly, however, she should stick with using the router as I am sure there is no protection offered in the building.

not necessarily. Nina's flashing could have just coincided with a time of day where people are not using the internet as much.

By the way, there have been people reporting that youtube is slow for quite a while. This might not be related to her or her building internet at all. Google servers are getting overloaded.

a friend of mine told me to portforward 8080, 3128 and 80 and the youtube problem would vanish, what do you think about this? what do the ports stand for?

Port 80 is http, as in a web server, www .

Port 8080 HTTP Alternate, which means it too is offten used by web servers.

Port 3128 seems to be used by many proxies.

But I dont see how port forwarding these ports could help with your issue since your not revieing data from youtube on those ports.

Ive now come to a conclusion, and thats, if I open up a youtube video, it stop buffering a couple of seconds into the video, but if I refresh the page, its loads normally, so why do I need to refresh the page one time in most of the videos?

I have 1.31, and was the same with 1.30.

What does http://www.youtube.com/my_speed look like for you?

Youtube has always been super slow for me.

I'm only getting 2.25 while my ISP is supposedly 3.27. That's average according to google.

Yet some times I notice I am getting 11mbps. But most of the time it's like 2mbps. :(

Happens even if not using router, so it's not the router for me, it's just that youtube sucks when it comes to speed.

I easily get a constant 20mbps on other video sites. That's my connection maxed out btw.

Nina-Sky,,  :o I believe that as posted by lotacus, you are experiencing limited bandwidth due to high consumption within your building, plus the probable fact that you need to clear your caches and history. I am on a DIR-655 w/ HV A3 & FV 1.20 and get the youtube speed of 6.4, also clean your computer of other unwanted debris (unused programs, recyc.bin, etc.), and you might need to empty your macromedia (flash player) cache,

edit:
a link to let you know about the flash player + how to's..

I get 15.23 Mbit/s, even though I have 100Mbit/s.
