Intermittent dropped connections - FIXED!!
« on: January 29, 2010, 09:39:44 PM »

I have the A4 HW version and flashed it with v1.33NA yesterday. It's still dropping connections intermittently. I'm on ATT DSL with an average DL speed of 4mb when things are going right. My XBox360 is set to static IP and is set on the DMZ. It also has the same problems.

I'm looking for any ideas on how I can help eliminate the disconnections.

**UPDATE:

Found that my ATT/Siemens 4100B DSL modem has the same IP (192.168.0.1) as my DIR-655 router which caused the conflict and led to intermittent drops.

CHANGES MADE TO DIR-655 SETTINGS PER DLINK TECH SUPPORT:

Change my default Dlink router IP to 192.168.5.1
Disable "Advanced DNS Service" mode
Change MTU value to 1492
Change DHCP IP Address Range values to "192.168.5.100 - 192.168.5.199"
Add assigned XBOX360 static IP address to DMZ to bypass firewall

So far, no dropped connections for the last 2 hours.  ;D

Same problem with att dsl and XBL. I downgraded the firmware and fixed my problems but if that's not an option, I would try the 30 second reset followed by disconnecting the power and with the reset still in wait 30 seconds then plug the power back in with the reset still pushed for another 30 seconds. Reset to factory defaults inside the router, and make sure your pp0e connection on the router is set to always on. If using dhcp try putting your dsl modem into bridge mode then setting up the pp0e connection on the router.

How did you find the IP address of your DSL modem ?

There is a sticker underneath my DSL modem with its default IP address. You can also find it by going to the DLink router setup menu, then click on the STATUS tab. In the WAN section, the Primary/Secondary DNS Server IP entry should be the same as your modem's IP. At least, it is with my setup.

So far, since my last post, both my wired/wireless connections are still holding steady w/o drops. Bottom line is, you need to make sure the your modem and router have different IPs set up.
