DLINK DIR 855 FIRMWARES . PLEASE HELP !
« on: January 30, 2010, 03:35:54 AM »

I have a problem with my router (DLINK DIR-855 N XTREME) since i`ve upgraded its firmware
from international dlink ftp service - ftp.dlink.com

After upgrading i lost a bunch of critical features that i`ve bought
the device for. After contacting local (russian) dlink support
service i found out that there are different types of firmwares:
  international and russian.

Russian version has a very needful feature when dealing with our internet providers - DUAL NET (lan +
vpn simultaneously). The international (or North American) version lacks it.

Of course i tried to return the russian firmware but all my attempts
  failed. It says:

  ------------------------------
  Upload Failed
The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.

If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the device may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an 'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.

The Gateway will not be reprogrammed.

  ------------------------------

So how can i return to my local firmware, that has all the features
i`ve paid for ? Please help ! There should be some upgrade-unlock-policy
firmware.

While getting into the matter i`ve ran into a lot of people who is
dealing with this ... misunderstanding.

International firmware (i have at this moment):
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir855/Firmware/dir855_firmware_121NA.zip

Russian firmware woth DUAL NET feature (i desire for):
ftp://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Router/DIR-855/Firmware/DIR8522A2_FW120WWB06Beta.bin

Do you know if it would allow me to roll back from the 1.22NA to the 1.12NA?

I did not try it personally but as it "unlocks" the firmware it should also be possible to downgrade to 1.12NA.

(I tried the switch between NA -> EU version only)

Okay.  I couldn't hold back and gave this a try.  It flashed back to the 1.20 firmware and rebooted.  Logged back in, reflashed back to the 1.12 with no issues at all.  Anyone having issues with any firmware and can't roll backward.  This worked for me.  My wireless errors that started with the 1.21> now seem to be gone.  I'll post more after it's been running for a coupel of days.

Edit:  Rolling back definitely didn't solve anything.  It's clear that D-Link has updated the hardware in some way that's not effected the firmware since I was still having wireless errors and more so than I did on the 1.22 even though I never originally did on the 1.12.
