Slow transfers - router says it's only connecting in 'A' mode
« on: February 01, 2010, 10:53:33 PM »

I have a DAP-1522 connecting to a DIR-628 in bridge mode, 5 GHz, "N" only (supposedly).  When I connect from my laptop, the router's Status > Wireless screen shows the link as "802.11n (5 GHz)" exactly as I'd expect.  But my DAP-1522 is listed as simply "802.11a".  Even though I have 60% link-quality and "130 Mbps" link-speed, I can't transfer any files faster than 16 Mbps.  And, according to Wikipedia, 802.11a doesn't even support 130 Mbps so either the 628 or the 1522 (or both) are wrong in the reported link-speed.

I've tried emailing D-Link tech support (twice) but all they ever say is, "Please call our (for pay) tech support."

I see lots of other reports on this forum of "slow speeds" on the 1522, so I'm wondering if maybe there's a widespread bug wherein it doesn't really connect in wi-fi 'N' mode, at all ?  Can other people report what their routers report for the 1522's link?
__________

P.S. If I run a cable between my server and the remote workstation I can transfer files at 70 Mbps, so I know it's the wireless link causing the slowness.

oh, well.  I just bought a Netgear 5 GHz AP/bridge and it works perfectly (so far).  And it was cheaper, go figure.

I was only getting 54 Mbps on auto-set but then I forced it to 115 Mbps and it's been rock-solid, in fact the Signal Quality is even higher than before.

What pair of router/bridge are you using?  That was my whole problem: I couldn't get a DIR-628 router and a DAP-1522 bridge to connect in "N" mode...

I'm using netgear wndr 3700 in one place , linksys wrt 600n at another , get better results with the netgear , these rates are on the 5ghz band , the 2.4 band gets lower transfer rates , but better distance . Each band has it's faults , 5 ghz better transfer rate , less distance  . Conection rate 300Mbps on 5 Ghz N band ,
