Help Please with "Lost lease on IP Address"
« on: February 03, 2010, 09:53:22 AM »

Every day at the same time I suffer a wireless disconnect from the router. The log indicates the following:

[INFO]   Wed Feb 03 11:59:50 2010   Lost lease on IP Address

Does anyone know how to fix this so I do not get a wireless disconnect each day?

What IP is it losing?

Check to make sure your modem, router and wireless devices are not trying to use the same IP.

it should be
DHCP IP address lease ended
You can reserve IP address
LAN Settings

I have the ip addresses of the network computers on the DHCP Reservations List set for the ip addresses never to expire. I assume the ip address in question could be the modem. It's a D-Link DCM-202 cable modem. The router ip address is 192.168.0.1.  The ip addresses of my machines are as below:

   Assigned IP           Hostname             Expires
   192.168.0.192   Lexmark X4550     Never
   192.168.0.194   Familyroom             Never
   192.168.0.195   Wii                     Never
   192.168.0.196   JDH                     Never
   192.168.0.197   OFFICE             Never
   192.168.0.198   Netbook             Never

How do I check the modem's ip address?

I was able to find the modem's ip address by connecting to it through the web browser. But its ip address is totally different from any of the above.

The Cable Modem IP Information I found showed also:

DHCP Lease Time:  D: -- H: -- M: -- S: --

But there is no way to change this setting.

I have been getting this same issue as well lately. My lease is lost on my modem's ip every hour on the hour. No idea why this is happening and have tried everything.

If the modem is configured that way you need to contact your ISP

I contacted my ISP (Comcast) and they say the modem is working fine. The ip address is not the modem's, neither is it the ip address of any of the network computers or the router. But what else would be causing this disconnect at the same time each day?

Under Device Information I have found the offending IP address as the IP address of the WAN. Does this help any toward a fix of this problem?

I was having issues with DHCP too with some devices. I reserved IPs for each of them like WMH did, and it seems to have gone away. Defeats the purpose a bit, though.
