DGL-4500
« on: February 03, 2010, 11:10:23 AM »

I have a DGL-4500 A1 hardware with 1.02 fw on it and have had it since 07. I've been reading these forums for a month or so now and have had problems with the router rebooting itself alot. I tried the settings I seen furrynutz posted and many other things. I didn't want to update the fw past 02 since I seen people having all kinds of problems. Anyways I wanted to ask on here if anyone was interested in buying this router from me. So let me know if anyone wants to get it. It's just going to sit and waste so I figured I'd see if anyone on these forums wanted it.

I presume that since your trying to sell the 4500 that you have bought something else?
What is wrong with your v1.02 4500? I have 2 friends I play with online and there still at v1.02 and there working well. Whats going on?

v1.15 is a stable FW build.

I have a DGL-4500 A1 hardware with 1.02 fw on it and have had it since 07. I've been reading these forums for a month or so now and have had problems with the router rebooting itself alot.

I'm curious, did you operate it upright or flat? I have mine flat, but have a fan constantly blowing air across it, to keep it cool. I keep hoping they will release a unit with a real heat-sink & waste heat removal system. Either a phase-change cooler or a fan.

I had issues with a DGL-4300 and heat, which is why I started using a dedicated fan for the D-Link routers. Your problem actually sounds a bit like what I was having. It turned out mine was due to a failing power-supply, which manifested in a number of issues. I only diagnosed it when I bought a second 4300, and decided to test the new power-supply on the old unit, and all of the strange problems went away. You could try a multi-power adapter (a handy thing to have around anyway) and see if that is your issue. I'd say get a replacement PS from D-Link, but ... I found that process ... unsatisfactory. And I don't know if it's gotten any better in the interim.

Don't know if it will help or not, but I thought I'd add that...

The router keeps rebooting itself at random times especially at night when I play online. It will do it a few times and then work fine but I'm just tired of the hassle of it. I changed alot of the settings trying all kinds of things but it still does the same thing. I have my 360,PS3, and Wii on it wireless. My pc is hardwired. I bought a netgear WNDR3700-100NAS last night. I operated it flat also and didnt't have any heating problems. It has worked great these past 2 years till about 2 months ago.

anything in the logs giving any odd messages by chance? What ISP do you use Cable or DSL? Seen some issues with DSL modems and this router. Its worth updating to v1.15 and giving it a try. All gaming is on wireless? What mode and band are you using? 2.4Ghz G mode only seems to work well for multiple wireless consoles.

My buddy has a 4500 and has 3 xboxes connected to his, however he's only got one xbox on wireless.

I'd try the update, save off your current configuration file, update, reset to factory defaults, reapply the saved config file. Then test.

Check out my Gaming and GameFuel settings for extra info too. Let us know how it goes.

I actually tried all of that except for updating the fw to 1.15. I put it on the same settings as you (furrtnutz) had posted on the top of this forum. I have Charter Cable. I've been on 2.4Ghz G mode only also. I set it to factory defaults before and have turned gamefuel off in the past as well.

Ok, I would give 1.15 a go. It's worth the try, if not then you'll know. Let us know how it goes.
