I've recently built a new PC with Windows 7 64-bit and the network is crawling. Here are the setups that I tested along with the results:

New W 7 PC -> DIR-655 (wired) -> internet => crawling
New W 7 PC -> internet => fast
Old W XP PC -> DIR-655 (wired) -> internet => fast
New W7 PC -> DIR-655 (wired) -> Old W XP PC => crawling

To summarize, the new W7 works fine when connected directly to the internet and the DIR-655 works fine with the old PC. But the combination of W7 + DIR-655 is crawling. I am familiar with the TCP protocol and these results don't make sense. Any idea about what could be wrong? Are there know issues of DIR-655 and Windows 7?

PS: I tested the internet speed using dslreports.com, which is pretty reliable.

you can check to see if it's joined a network.ie: home/public/work. I ran into a couple times where network access was limited until this was chosen.

also, try resetting the adapter. dhcp? and or pull up the cli and do ipconfig /flushdns then ipconfig /registerdns not sure if it will have any affect but I have to do that on mine when i change networks or have my laptop set up for seudo wireless redundancy etc..

Yes, it joined my home network and I rebooted many times without any effect.

After some more digging on the web I discovered that if I limit the LAN driver to 100 Mbps, it works decent. Of course it's a shame that I cant get the full 1Gbps, but it's working.

For reference, I have an Asus P7P55D-E motherboard with an integrated Realtek 8112L gigabit LAN.

you may want to double check that your ethernet cable is labled cat5e. Also, you probably want to try turning off jumbo frames if it's currently enabled in the NICs drivers, or at least turn it down to 4096 (i believe) since the switch on the dir655 is limited in it's support for large payloads.

Hmm.  Yeah I have a spankin' new Intel Gig-E that was constantly disconnecting and reconnecting.  The auto-negotiate in this router seems very sensitive and occasionally gets fubar.  Like today, it wouldn't talk to my computer at all until I unplugged the cat 5 and moved it to a different port.  Then, life was good again.

Now I have Intel -> Trendnet Gig-E Switch -> DLink and it's a little better.  I think there are still periodic issues that I'm trying to work through, probably caused by some crappy Cat5 in my walls, but in general, the Trendnet is handling things better. 

Given that the Trendnet switch cost 1/4 of the Dlink and my old router was 100x more reliable, I'm not sure why I don't just return the Dlink and go with old router + new switch.  Oh well.

What download speeds did you drop to after using the New PC > DIR 655 > Internet connection?

I am having a similar problem where I am getting 25Mb/s down (Roadrunner Turbo) via PC > internet, but when I add this router into the mix it drops to 7-13Mb/s.

I used speedtest.net for my results, which seems reliable.

This router seems to be finicky with W7 x64.
