Factory Installed Firmware-1.21NA
« on: February 04, 2010, 08:23:15 PM »

I just got a new 4500, A2 HW and 1.21NA FW. Do I need to do anything with the firmware or is the factory version stable?

You're going to have to tell us.  You're the first one I've seen state they got a unit from D-Link with the 1.21 pre-installed.

I just bought this Router and have the same firmware. I updated to 1.22 due to the wireless keeps on droping out. I up dated to 1.22 and had the wirelss stop working on all my wireless LT (iphones contiued to work ok). I have 3 LT and have nothing but problems when trying to connect. Im planing to down grade to 1.15 and see how that works.

Did you purchase you router from a store? What firmware is listed on the bottom of the unit itself?
Or even the box. I thought A2's usually come with 1.15FW.. I could be wrong though..

I can confirm this. I just got my order in from Amazon and there it is FW:1.21NA --- So far I have had no problems with it since I installed it 2 hours ago.

It's not as fast I thought it would be but Gamefuel does work. I have it set to both the PS3s in the household. I have a printer and a desktop hooked up through cat5 cables and I have 4 going wireless( 2 PS3s, a laptop, and a desktop connected with Network USB) --- Have had not one problem with it except for speed but it's better than the G router I was using. Setup was simple (for me anyways) advanced features may take some additional knowledge but it's nothing you cant look up on the internet lol

What speeds are you expecting?  Just because your network speeds are faster doesn't mean your internet speed will be that much better unless you were being limited by your old network.

FWIW, I received mine from Newegg last Friday and it had 1.21NA on it. I have not updated the FW yet but guess I should to 1.22NA. Worked fine from Fri - Sun, but Sun night the router locked up or something. I couldn't access it via web interface and wireless dropped - had to unplug and reboot. Really pee'd me off since I bought this router to replace my Linksys which was doing the same.

So, is it best to go 1.22NA or 1.15? Are there known 1.21 lockup problems?

Unfortunately, you can't go backwards.

Understood, thanks. So, if I go to 1.22, do I need to do a 30-30-30 reset? Or can I just update the firmware and keep settings?

Thanks!!

When you update the firmware, you should set the router to factory defaults after the flash, then reload all of your settings and such manually.

well v1.21NA has been known to be a cause of some peoples issues, including me when I had it. If you seen to be having issues, i.e. disconnects and no internet with out reboots. I would go head and do the FW update.

1. save off your configuration file if you have made any configuration changes. Use FF or IE to save your file.
2. update the FW with v1.22NA
3. do the factory reset after the FW update was applied.
4. upload the config file back again or go in and start making changes.
