well v1.21NA has been known to be a cause of some peoples issues, including me when I had it. If you seen to be having issues, i.e. disconnects and no internet with out reboots. I would go head and do the FW update.

1. save off your configuration file if you have made any configuration changes. Use FF or IE to save your file.
2. update the FW with v1.22NA
3. do the factory reset after the FW update was applied.
4. upload the config file back again or go in and start making changes.

Awesome thanks for the tips. Is there an option in the web interface to save/export the config settings? (not home right now or I'd look myself)

I got mine on Friday and it is A2 with 1.21NA installed and it is working GREAT! No issues here. I am not going to bother with FW 1.22NA unless I have to. Too many firmware horror stories in these forums. lol I'm very happily surprised with my 4500.

I'm going to let it go and see if it locks up again. Is there any info here that goes into detail why it would lock up? Is it too many clients? Too much data passing through? What causes it? Just bad firmware?

I don't think we really got any information on why it locked up. I know I would come home and find that I'd have to restart the 4500 since I could not get to the internet. After I got a beta build, they seem to have resolved it since then and it's still working well in v1.22NA

Thanks. My 4500 hardlocked again. Twice in one week. No wireless or anything - but unplugging and reconnecting worked. I will be trying 1.22 - if that doesn't work it goes back to Newegg. It's hard not to feel a bit disappointed after buying a $150 router and have it not work as intended out of the box.

Will report back in about a week after my firmware upgrade.

Sounds like v1.21NA is not working well and we've seen this. Let us know how the upgrade goes. I would do the following, save off your current configuration if you have any special settings you'd like to keep. If you don't then no worries. Use IE or FF to save off the file. Upgrade the FW. Perform a Factory Reset after the FW update, then test the router with one wired PC connected. What ISP service do you use? DSL or Cable? I have seen some issues lately with DSL modems and this router. If ur on DSL, make sure the DSL modem is set to transparent. Also I would make sure that ur Primary and 2ndary DSN IP addresses are filled in on the Basic/Internet/Manual window. Sometimes these won't automatically fill in. This will help I hope. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks. I'm on Cable - Comcast. I was unaware about the manual DNS config area - odd that it doesn't just use the "WAN" portion of the "Status" page. Never had to manually insert that in a router before. Seems odd.

Anyway, I did the fw upgrade, lets see how it does...

I just got this router last week to replace my old MS MN-700 wireless G that was crapping out once a week and losing its configuration...

Mine came with this 1.21NA firmware out of the box. I really wish I had researched it more...

This dlink seemed to work great for a few days and now suddenly I can not connect to xbox live. I have two xbox's, one is wireless, one is wired. Neither one will connect. not at the same time, not one at a time. Rebooting the router does nothing. Rebooting the modem, then the router does nothing. I had to call my ISP two nights in a row now to get on Live by having them reset my modem from their end.

Obviously, I can't be calling them every night to reset my modem so I can play xbox live.

So last night for the heck of it, I hooked my modem and my 360 up to my old Linksys BEFSR41 router, and I could get on Live with it no problem. Hooked everything back up to the Dlink... no Live until I called the ISP. Internet works fine with the router, just not the xbox Live.

Will upgrading the firmware solve this? Or do I call Amazon for a return?

Couple of options:
1. Check out the Gaming and GameFuel sticky. Disregard the Gaming section if your not using PCs to game. I have been using those steps outlined in Gamefuel for a while now. Also enable uPNP too. They work. I game a lot on XBL.

2. Update the FW.

3. If not happy, then return the unit.

I think you'll be happy with the router onces it's set up well. Gaming and Gamefuel aren't set up out of the box so that why I compiled some information about those settings.

Suggestions. ( I am currently running two xboxs with no problems, both wireless)
Put one in the dmz ( the wireless one), and create a rule with the other using furrynuts sticky guide.
Turn on universal plug and play.
Then prioritize them.
-hope it works out.
