Shareport sees USB hard disk, Windows doesn't
« on: February 05, 2010, 11:12:40 AM »

I'm attaching a hard drive (SimpleTech Signature Mini, 250 GB) to a DIR-628 and trying to access with a <1-y old Toshiba laptop running Vista 64.

If I plug the hard drive to the laptop directly, it works like it should and life is grand.

If I plug it into the router, Shareport sees the device, and I can "connect" it, and Shareport says it's connected like it's no problem. I even get the satisfying two-note indication of a new USB device. But it doesn't show up on my Computer. If I go into Windows' system manager and check out the device list, under USB devices is a USB mass storage device with the lovely yellow triangle. Properties states that the device "cannot be started".

This first happened with old firmware (1.13) and old Shareport. I've upgraded the firmware to the newest (1.22 I think?) and likewise with Shareport and I have the same problem.

So why does the drive work fine when connected directly but not when connected via shareport??

I'd appreciate any help.
