Can't stream anything without pauses
« on: February 05, 2010, 07:56:49 PM »

Mp3s/videos (very low bitrate) all pause randomly during playback over my lan. Both pcs are hard wired and i'm on a 100mbit home lan. What can be causing all these random pausing. Using 1.33na firmware.

I have the exact same problem. I am looking into finding a fix for this. My old wireless G ran video better. Now I have all Wireless N adapters in my house.

I'll post back if I find out anything.

I downgraded to 1.2x firmware.  It fixed my issues that sound somewhat similar to this.  With 1.3x, literally after a while, the device just disappears for a few seconds at a time, and it comes back.  A reboot clears it up for another few hours/days.

I can't officially recommend it, but if you're okay with a certain amount of risk, it might be worth a shot.

I'm trying it now, and so far so good...

Thanks, ironic77, I will give it a try. I heard 1.21 is pretty good. If it doesn't fix my streaming problem I will reinstall my old trusty WRT54 and return the DIR-655 to the store. Although I am always under the opinion you should never have to downgrade any firmware. Anything that is an upgrade should always work as good or better as previous versions. I am loosing patience with this device. Oh,well.

Is there any specific way to downgrade or just use normal firmware upgrade procedures?

Hrm that's odd what kind of settings are you using? I'm streaming just fine with no pauses. I just recently upgraded from 1.21 to 1.33NA and have encountered zero problems. In fact Iv noticed a nice improvement in wireless performance.

I'm streaming HD content to my PS3 wirelessly with zero hiccups, as well as music and no issues there either.

I'm using the built in windows media server to stream to the PS3 and its been extremely simple to use with no problems.

EDIT: Hardware ver is A4 and I'm running win7 64bit also not the PS3 is one floor down.

Probably old or mis-set QoS or WISH settings

Are they actual pauses?  I bring this up because I am experiencing a similar problem.  My problem though is like with music (this is a WIRED connection), I'm using Windows Media Center to direct my music downstairs to our workout area of the house.  I can watch the first 10-15 seconds of the song count off, but there is NO SOUND.

Anyway, was just wondering if we are experiencing the same thing?  If it is pretty much the same thing, then I would be interested in the fix that may be brought up here.

PROBLEM FIXED!!! ;)

Took my DIR-655, disconnected cables and wrapped them up and put router back in the box. Took it back to the store. Exchanged it for a WRT400N. WAHLA! WRT400N worked great out of the box with Security and default filters and traffic control in place. Videos stream great no constant stops. And it's using year old firmware. I guess the manufacterer doesn't have to keep releasing firmware updates to cover up bad hardware.
