Does this router ping client machines on the LAN automatically?
« on: February 08, 2010, 11:48:06 AM »

Hey Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with this router and using S3 sleep mode.

I was trying to use S3 on my file server to go to sleep when idle and wake up automatically whenever requested by ip.

This guide here explains this properly:

I am noticing that my pcs both restart after being in s3 after a minute or so.

It looks like the router is pinging them every minute which is causing them to wake up

Is there anyway to disable this automatic pinging so the pcs only wake up when requested by ip?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I use sleep mode on several of my desktops along with WOL (WakeOnLan) to be able to do updates without turning on that specific device manually.

Make sure you are using the "Magic Packet" in your Network Adapter's settings. Just enabling WOL without it will cause your exact issue. There is too much pinging traffic in a modern system for the old "directed IP" method. Just get a good WOL program that does magic packets, and you're good.

To that end Fusion WOL, is free and works well: http://www.fusion-online.com.ar/en/products/wol/
