Did you try running the Windows Wireless Network Connection Wizard?

Try to reinstall the drivers for your wireless adapter. Then configure it to connect to the new router with your SSID and password.

I went into Device Manager and removed the wireless adapter, restarted the computer and the wireless still does not work

i think he said he had win7 x64

the red X on the network adapter suggest some problem with drivers?
on your pc that is.

another option is that your wireless adapter only supports a standard, but the router is only b/g/n
your old was probably a/b/g?

just a few thoughts.

Yes its 7 x64, I should have looked back at his first post.  :-[
Hanginghelmet where exactly are you seeing the red X ? The icon in the notification area for your wired connection will show a red X on it if the network cable is unplugged. That is normal. The wireless adapter will have its own icon, if you click on that, does your network (SSID) show up in the list of available networks?

I see it when I click on Network and Sharing Center and then go into change adapter settings...its got an X and says it is disconnected and no I can't see my network listed.  I want to thank everyone for all their hope so far.

If you did not disable your wired NIC there should be two connections listed. Local Area Connection and Wireless Network Connection, do you see both? If not which one is listed? There should be an Icon for your wireless adapter in the notification area near the clock. If you click that are there any wireless networks listed?

Maybe we should start over from the start.
1. Did you log into the router and set the following:
Administrator password
Wireless enabled
Mode checked to make sure G is enabled
SSID changed from the default to something unique
Encryption set to WPA or WPA2 with a strong password set
2. Setup your wireless adapter using the above settings?

Can you use the cd or go to the wireless adapter malefactor site and get drivers for your OS? I think your card's drivers arnt installed or are the wrong OS. Make sure the drivers are the 64bit kind.

yes there are 2 connections listed.  The wireless one has the red x and says it is disconnected.  I have tried all of the steps that you suggested before alphanumeric and it does not work.  There are no updated drivers for this wireless adapter.  It worked with my previous G router but not this one.

Have you tried adding the network adapter?

Open network and sharing

On the left click on manage wireless networks then add then manually create a network.
Make sure to put a checkmark next to connect even if not broadcasting.

If that works then you are not broadcasting your SSID from the router.
