DIR-655 stops allowing new wireless connections, reboot fixes it
« on: February 08, 2010, 06:40:06 PM »

I bought a new DIR-655 a couple of months ago, and it usually works great. However, I'm running into an intermittent problem, now happening every couple of days, where I find that it won't accept any new wireless connections. The Wi-fi signal is visible (WPA encrypted), but devices are "unable to connect". The problem applies to all kinds of devices, including iPhone/iPod, iMac, Windows XP and Windows 7. Strangely, if a device is already connected, it continues to work fine. Only new connections are refused.

I have found that I can temporarily correct the problem by physically disconnecting the power cable and plugging it back in. Almost right away, the affected devices can connect and all is well...until next time.

What might be causing the problem?

Thanks!

With this router (and others in the past), I've experienced a lot of troubles IF SSID broadcasting is turned OFF. The problems even occur when the Network is setup to connect WITHOUT the benefit of SSID broadcasting.  This may/may not be the case with you, but I would at least test out the theory.  Turn on SSID Broadcasting and see if the problem dissapears.  If it's already on, then you have a whole different problem. :(  Continue troubleshooting :(  Man, it seems like that's all the consumer does now days with new technologies, sometimes to the degree that we have hardly any time for anything else. :)  Hope you get it worked out.

All,

Thanks for the replies. Here is some additional information:

- SSID Broadcasting is enabled
- Firmware version 1.32NA (Hardware version A4)

I've identified one possible cause:  The device's internal clock was not properly set, and this may be a contributing factor. I configured the clock to use the D-Link NTP server in hopes that will help.

In the meantime, I have enabled logging and will post the log should the problem re-appear. Regardless, I will update with status in a few days.
