This is a bit confusing for me.  How can I tell which Firmware version is compatible with which Hardware version? There is absolutely no information about it in the download area, or if there is I did not see it.  I downloaded all of them.  I am running hardware version A2, and Firmware 1.13

My goal is a 300Mbps WAP2 Connection.  Right now, I'm at 130.

DIR-628 only exists with a A2 hardware version, for now.

My experience is that you require a 5Ghz radio enabled router.  The only simultaneous dual-band router, from D-link, is the DIR-825 router.

I have D-Link DWA-652 Xtreme Notebook adapter.  All I did was enable 20/40 bandwidth on the router, and it worked.

I tried that, and it didn't even show up as an available network.  the trouble I'm having now is that once in a while, it will disconnect for a few seconds and then reconnect.  This throws netflix into fits.  When I have my Wi-Fi Blu-Ray player hooked up, it will cause other problems.  I don't think that the DVD Player will auto scan like a computer does.  So I may have to reboot the unit...I don't know, it's not hooked up yet. I want to see if I can can resolve this issue.

My DIR-628 is a A1 hardware version.

As my router is also the same -- Hardware Version: A1. 

Please note I did NOT update to 1.23NA because when the files were unzipped, it was noted the updated .bin file was named as if it were for the Hardware Version: A2.   

I remember an update fiasco in in 2007/2008 with another D-Link model WBR-2310 where the Hardware Version: <Version$> made a difference as to what version of firmware you obtained and used.  Also, the inside of the router when opened contained a NICE surprise... the router board was a DI-624 model that had been placed in a new casing that was branded as a newer WBR-2310 model. <cough cough> 

I suspect this was done before the board's specifications were completely changed and newer parts were brought in for assembly.  <cough cough>  Which makes sense being since different hardware revisions exist for many of their specific model numbers.
