1.08 UPnP Refresh Takes a Long Time?
« on: February 19, 2010, 01:51:16 PM »

Hi Everyone,

I upgraded from 1.05 to 1.08 and noticed that it takes me basically overnight now to refresh UPnP. With 1.05, it only takes around 20 minutes.

I've reverted back to 1.05 for now...

Hope someone can shed some light...Thanks!!!

i have only used f/w 1.06 and it would take many hours or overnight as well so 1.05 is the way to go obviously ... i have since started using Twonkey media server and it takes minutes for it to be up there ...

Hi Klien, do you use Twonky via funplug or on PC to stream?

If only they brought out a Twonky app for 1.08...considering you can just add apps now like the BT client...

i first used it via fun plug and it worked great and then i actually bought another nas from a competitor which has it built in and have had no problems at all with it

i agree, it would be great if they put it together in a package but i don't think there is enough memory in the 323 to support it .. could be wrong though

Yeah, I'm running out of space and was thinking about trying a different manufacturer who does Twonky in built too...

Still hoping someone could shed light on the 1.08 problem...I would love to be able to stream .m2ts files but without having to wait all night...

i have about 35,000 pictures, 4000 songs and 1600 videos, but what i found if i wanted to watch it fairly soon was put the video in it's on directory and have the upnp server scan just that directory and doing a manual refresh, by doing that it would appear a lot quicker

you can give that a try and see if it works, that's what i did on 1.06, haven't put the 1.08 final on it yet ...

yeah, that's a good idea...but it would be good not to have to manually do it each time i want to watch something. I don't mind a 20min refresh.

Anyone have any advice as to why it's happening to 1.08 firmware? Is it due to the increased file format support?

Why does it take so long to start with when other devices and software can do the same in minutes?

hey noisuf, it was happening in f/w 1.06 for me as well, it took forever so it isn't just 1.08 ...

hey rodent, it is dlink's upnp, it isn't dnla certified or anything like that where as twonky and tversity i believe are, not sure if refresh rate is part of that but i am using twonky now on a QNAP nas and it is there within minutes without a manual refresh ...

Thats also an issue, not being dnla certified when there are so many devices that use dnla certified uPnp. I have seen a WD MY BOOK NAS refresh within minutes with 1000's of video and music files on it.

You're right...I missed that in your post...it was happening back in 1.06...so can't be necessarily due to increased format support...

Until DLink or someone sheds some light to improve refresh timeframe using 1.06 to 1.08 firmware, I'll live with less file format support and view m2ts files via backup drive and fsck using telnet.
