Formatting Hard Drive
« on: February 22, 2010, 09:16:13 AM »

I have tried several times to format a 200 GB WD hard drive that I took out of a laptop.  It just won't do it.  Always get "Format Error".
Wouldn't work with NTFS partitions on it or not.
Any ideas?

Try to delete any present partitions on it first, and maybe format it in the laptop first to ensure it's working good!
(Use a bootcd with disk tools maybe, to check that it's ok....)

Thanks.  I've already tried that...2-3 times.  No difference.  The drive works fine in a USB enclosure and attached to the laptop it came out of.

you have to delete any windows portions (NTFS, or FAT) then you can try with "gparted " to format the drive to "EXT3" this is a linux format, or you just let format the hard drive in the router.
